Fat Yellow tang?

I noticed this morning that my yellow tang looks a bit bloated. I have increased my feeding (mysis shrimp) to the tank to help treat an ailing clown fish. My yellow is a crack-fiend for the stuff so he always helped himself to whatever went in the tank. I didn’t see him poop yesterday but I do vaguely remember a dinosaur sized tang turd the day before. Should I just cut feeding and see if it helps, or is there something I should do?

He’s a baby from biota. When I first got him, he was almost white, but I’ve had him for about a month now and is increasingly yellow daily. I do always have a piece of Nori clipped in the tank. Also, I will shred some and put it in with my daily food concoction. I feed spir mysis daily with a few drops of vitachem. I’ve also got a lot of hair algae in my tank that he seems to love along with some cheato I always make available.

He would choose the shrimp over the seaweed any day of the week though. Normally, I don’t feed as often as I have been, but with the sick clown, I thought it necessary. The clown is recovered by the way.

my tang is also from biota. I would recommend slowing down on the frozen shrimp feeding, they do not provide much nutritional value and overfeeding them could certainly cause bloating like that.

in my opinion, a quality flake food is a great staple. Everyone is different, but my fish thrive on Ocean Nutrition formula 1 and 2 flakes, I usually feed frozen mysis or brine soaked in selcon supplement once or twice a week. I like my fish to be accustomed to dry food so it's easy to use an auto-feeder when I travel. My tang, angel and starry blenny tend to prefer the formula 2 flake which supposedly contains more algae, and my omnivores (clowns, damsels, wrasse) prefer the formula 1 flakes which are "meatier". This is likely a biota tang and trend seen the last few months. Often it subsides on its own but it a condition and not disease. The mysis shrimp may be causing excess mucus in the stomach line creating partial blockage. Offer foods such as LRS fish frenzy, plankton, brine which will help with any blockage and TDO pellets

I agree - the swelling here isn’t edema or ascites, so is either a blockage, or too much food in the gut. I’d back off feeding for 24 hours and then see if the issue clears. If it does, then start back up, but with smaller, multiple feedings per day. I would dice up any mysids that you feed.

It is a biota tang btw! Do you know if the condition is progressive as they get older or does it tend to subside?

No, just change foods but reduce portion sizes a few days

3 biota babies here added 3/26. They color up very nicely. Two developed some white hlle but that appears to be subsiding now so I'm hopfull it goes away totally.
I feed frozen PE mysis and rods original. I add vitachem and selcon a few times a week. I do not rinse the food. I also feed formula 1 and 2 pellets, sustainable hatchery diet pellets and dk1 pellets. They get pellets as snacks through out the day. I started them on the dk1 pellets first since it's what biota said they feed them. I also feed nori a few times a week.

Not eating is a serious symptom. There isn't much you can do in terms of treating that, other than seeing if it will clear in time.

Can you post a video of the fish now? It might show some symptoms that could direct us in a different direction....

I was going to ask if he was little - it seems like normal color. I would watch for any signs of distress - did you happen to quarantine it or the other fish?
