Fatmike's Sexy 57 Rimless

It crashed my tank, killed 40 different Chalices and a bunch of other corals.

High silicates caused a dinoflaggeleate outbreak, which caused corals to die, which lead to a year long battle with hair algae and cyano that I have yet to beat.

hmmmmmmm.......... think liveaquaria can switch my salt order lol

alright ill see what bites I can get with one

Seconded! Thought he mentioned something about it being in his build thread. haven't seen it there though. I'm going to design my own then look for others ideas and modify mine

sent from my phone.

It's the maybe back one page. Mike I'm also planning on useing Red Sea. I have used kent marine, and instant ocean both. Instant ocean has high cal, mag, and alk straight out. Kent is good just not popular around. Red Sea had great products and I do think highly of them.

I had a cool thought today of how I can put a net over top of the aquarium and it not be noticeable.

I'll draw it up once I get home

ok so I tried to do it myself and it did not work well at all soo...... im going to seek professional help lol

ok so my idea is to make a rim out of acrylic and on top of the rim I drill small holes about half an inch apart. then I thread fishing line through the holes that way I create a nice tight screen that you wont be able to see. and then my fish will not jump out! it should be nice and hidden.

my problem was I dont have the tools to cut it so I tried to use one of the hand cutters but that was just really bad. i failed lol

so there is a local place that does acrylics and will cut stuff for you. they usually have a ton of scrap laying around so thats where I shall go!

You can try getting the aluminum rails that are used for screen doors and windows at Home Depot.

They make 90's for it and you will make a rectangle that fits the top of your tank. Then get the "mesh" that they sell on BRS and other sites. There is a channel in the aluminum frame, you simply lay the "mesh" across the frame you have made and there is a round rubber piece that you push into the channel which holds the mesh tight in the frame.

Hope that makes sense

I was thinking about doing that but I don't want it to show. I thought the acrylic would be a cool idea. Ha if they had clear rails if be all over it

Don't do it!!! Rimless should be left rimless!!!! :)

Ha I agree! That's why it will be just barely barely barely visible!

that looks really good can't wait to see more

Thanks! Sump should be here this week or early next so I'll be able to keep going on this bad boy!

I agree with the rimless should stay rimless, but at the same time, its horrible to find out one of your fish turned into a jumper.... RIP. Totally up to you! I hate the way mesh screens look though! Acrylic one sounds like a nice idea

Ya I was just at an acrylic store and they are cutting me the top piece I need. It will be very thin and thou won't even be able to tell! Because I agree with rimless staying rimless. But I don't agree with a 500 dollar wrasse dying! Lol
