so i went and ship a package/box worth $500 of corals(i gave the buyer a good deal so he only paid me $395 shipped...cost me $73 to ship everything) 40 frags total(high end zoas, lps, softies and few sps)...i didnt put insurance because its summer so i am not really thinking bout weather delays....
turns out they misplace and couldnt locate the box...to make the story short, they deliver the box after 2 days...all corals dead because it all got cooked...
so i am thinking im screwed but oh well theres the $100 standard claim plus shipping back...they did refunded the shipping...but denied my claim...so NO standard $100....their reason is they dont allow or ship live animals and corals.....
i did reason out to the claim rep that i talked to and i said i have been shipping corals for a long time and this is the first time that this happened to me,and i have said that whenever i put insurance i always tell fed ex what is inside the box because u have to let them know whats inside when u are putting insurance and they do accept it,,,so i dont get why this this rep is saying they dont allow to ship corals and or live animals...

my question is..
can i still have a chance on getting the $100 standard claim,if i fight it do i even have a chance or just a waste of time?...i am really really upset right now,,i am so screwed.:cry::cry:

when it wasnt delivered when it was supposed to,thats when i started calling fed ex and finding out whats going on up to the last business hours,i told them whats in the package and that they are perishable and are live corals and that they need to be delivered that day....they said they will do their best...so yes i told them whats in the box when the delay was happening...:(

It is in there written policy so you will lose any legal confrontation.
Take your shipping and run.

i used to use shipyourreptiles.com because they were they only company that offered insurance with live animals shipped fedex.

I also hate dealing with fed ex. Every time I pick up a package they tell me that they don't ship live animals but there are plenty of companies like ship your reptiles that use fed. I know most people don't like USPS but they are easy do deal with when you want a refund and cost half as much,

I used to work at a zoological park and was present when FedEx delivered a hippopotamus. They do ship live animals. At least they did 12 years ago.

Sorry about your luck.

Fedex covers the live animal shipping in some detail in their TOS. If you wish to ship corals with them you are supposed to setup an account with an account manager and they will have you sign a waiver that removes any liability to them. It is largely common sense as how can they be responsible for guaranteeing the safe arrival of live animals?

Now that said, I know of online retailers that claim they have insurance and some of them charge the client for that insurance but I don't know of anyone personally that does it and I don't know if they have some deal with FedEx that I am unaware of. To some degree the volume of shipping you do has a bearing on what terms you can negotiate.

Bottomline though is that there is always a chance that your package will get lost and that is the risk we all take going into this.

Try to find a branchoff on fedex. Likd I found this local company that is an authorized fedex dealer and they do freight and international for animals so they offer coverage on anything, and the shipping is like 20 $ cheaper than fedex!

Fed-ex is usually so reliable. :(
Cherry Corals shipped mine fed-ex with 'live corals' written on top of the box...it arrived fine...

With millions of boxes going through the mail a few are bound to be mis-placed. I had a box delayed to me by a day, thankfully all the palys made a full recovery. I wouldn't waste my time trying to get the other money back, there was a thread somewhere about how to become authorized to ship live animals via fedex.

Knock on wood.... never had a issue with Fed Ex they have been really good to me. Sorry about your lost that is a huge bummer.

Sorry to hear.Iv always had good luck with FedEx but USPS is just a joke

well,,i moved on...i replace the corals to the buyer and just glad that he was very pleased that i took care of him...i was happy that he is very understanding and patient...
i sent the box through UPS this time and got there safe and sound.... lesson learned...won't be using them anymore

FedEx delivered a hippo!!!!! Lol how big?

FedEx is better than ups .... Had way more issues with them.

I always have them hold the package at shipping hub now for pickup. So it's not cooking or freezing. No problems since.

I'm sorry to hear, I have been in ur spot on the receiving side. Also sorry to hear that corals died ....

Bummer:( Your tank is awesome and I imagine alot of love went into those peices. It also makes it worse that you lost a package that you discounted the price on... I think you have risk using any carrier and with a problem like yours it would hard to determine value.
