I think FedX is fine if you are sending a box of legal paperwork from NY to LA.

BUT in our Hobby, garbage

Fed Ex GIF

Important thing to note - Priority Overnight before 1000 only applies to commercial addresses. There’s fine print for residential addresses that allows later delivery.

Holding for pick up at the distribution center is the only surefire way to prevent delays even with priority shipping to residential addresses.

I generally leave a note for fedEx/UPS if any specific intructions. Unfortunately, their job is to deliver the box.
In part of responsibility, shipper needs to track weather and pack with heat packs accordingly.

Waited all morning on FedX. Didn't arrive until after 1pm. 3hrs late....

I had to go somewhere for 1.5 hrs at 2pm

I SPECIFICALLY left a note on my front door (with the front door opened halfway mind you) on a BIG 8.5x11 sheet of paper that you could read from the freaking street:

FEDX
LEAVE PACKAGE INSIDE DOOR
THEN CLOSE DOOR

sidenote: super quiet neighborhood where leaving my door cracked open halfway for 2hrs midday, no big deal at all crimewise

Sooooo.
What did they do? They showed up 10mins after I left and put package clearly marked PERISHABLE outside on my steps in 42° weather for 1.5 hrs

Above pic shows the internal temp around 63-64° water temp

Luckily just about everything was Acans so everything SEEMS to be okay floating in bags.

I hate FedX

I have left coolers with notes before, both FedEx and UPS have looked at them and set the package right next to it.

I've even added the same instructions to the delivery notes within my accounts.

A FedEx driver last week was the first one to follow the delivery instructions and placed the package within my provided cooler. First time in 2+ years to follow the instructions.

Don't forget, it's a crap job, for low pay, long hours, and a thankless clientele. How much would you care about details if you were as disrespected, underpaid and had no clear path to promotion even if you do a great job? Just sayin, it's never a good idea to trash the folks who serve you for low pay.

On the same note with "I hate FedEx" I ordered my new Kessil a360x's on Black Friday. The package was scheduled for delivery Monday the 29th. Tracking info said it was running early and would be delivered Sunday by "end of day" instead. I was stoked. Well, Sunday came and went, no package. Monday, I missed the driver by 18 minutes and got home to a door tag saying I had to sign for the package. I dutifully signed the door tag and left it on the door in the morning before I left for work (at 1:15am). Got home to ANOTHER door tag stuck to the one I had left, This one had underlined "Must be present to receive", and "Final Attempt". Well, I missed him twice by a combined less that 1 hour, I have no reason to expect to be here for the "Final Attempt" so of course I called in sick. I waited all day, and just happened to be outside when the driver turned onto my court. Only, he doesn't stop at my house!!! I flag him down on his way out and I'm like "Where is my package?" He said that he has nothing for me, We talk a few minutes and I explain that missing a day of work costs me almost half what the package is worth and tell him to leave it the next day regardless. He agrees but warns me that they don't always get the same routes every day. I understand this as a driver myself. Of course I call in Thursday. It is STILL Final Attempt and there is no way to relocate or reschedule delivery. The package arrived Thursday, but I still lost 2 days of work to get a package that was less than an hour away from my house on Sunday morning at 2 am.

UPS, FedEx, USPS have all left packages in front of my garage door. Not often but they’ve done it. I almost ran over one. Who the hell leaves a package in front of a closed garage door?
Heh... I ordered a $10,000 PC over the summer which clearly had a signature request, and UPS left it in front of my garage door, didn't ring the doorbell, knock, nothing... Little did the driver know I have a buddy at UPS, I reported it to him, and that driver is no longer delivering in my neighborhood, according to my buddy he got written up for his actions and then quit a day later...

More of the do your job and do it well camp regardless of what you make.

I don't even use vendors who use Fed ex for overnights. Not that they are bad vendors. I've had the same $@&t happen with Fed ex. UPS has never been more than an hour late. A couple of months ago I had a fish order show up at 10:30 PM! Something to keep in mind Fed Ex route drivers are not Fed ex employees. They are contracted through another company. Just like Amazon Prime. Amazon used to be great until they started subcontracting drivers.
As a ex FedEx employee... This. I never knew 90% of route drivers are sub contractors, until I started working there in 2010.

I didn't either until I hired a guy from there. He made $15 an hour and climbed on and off the truck about 300 times a day delivering around Metro Orlando. Constantly monitored as well. He told me that the routes are privately owned and pretty much all the route drivers worked for a 3rd party.

Yup. There are a few exceptions, their commercial global overnight are company drivers, but that's it. I was AC/MX, so I couldn't tell you much about it the route driver side.

I despise Fed Ex. They are terrible. Lost multiple packages this year....

Austin Aqua Culture
Extreme Corals
and now Battle Corals have or are ending their contracts with Fed Ex and going UPS, FYI...

I'm at a point where i will not order from places that ship Fed Ex.

Same thing happened to me last week. Order frags from Florida to NY ( next day delivery ) not sure why it ended up in Indiana for a day. Frags came in a day late, 8 pm late.
Everything survived.

Will not be ordering during holiday rush again. I'll wait for July 4 / memorial day / Arbor day / sale ... etc ..
I had the same issue, ordered from Live Aquaria ( Powder blue hybrid and juvenile Achilles ) both got stuck in Indiana and arrived 2 days later. Shipping during the holiday is a nightmare!

That is craziness! I swear, it sounds like that driver was watching your house and waited to deliver your package when they saw you leave.

That may be the case but I don't accept that as an excuse to do a crappy job. No one is forcing those drivers to do that job. I've had plenty of low paying jobs and I always did them with pride. If I didn't like my job anymore I left. I didn't stay only to start doing a crappy job because I hated what I was doing.

Oh no, it was the other way around. He got here 18 minutes before I got home on Monday and 27 minutes before on Tuesday. There is no way he could have known. I start at 3am and leave the house at 1;15 (it is a 75 mile drive each way).
