Felt socks wash procedure

I usually just toss them into the washing machine with a bunch of bleach and run the cycle....then I run the cycle with just water one time. If they still have a bleach smell then you can soak in fresh water or just let it air dry out for a while.

I got a handful of them, threw them in a bucket and when I had enough I washed them in just hot water in the garage washing machine. If used the real one, divorce papers would have been filed in quick fashion.

I toss all my dirty ones (I keep those in an old salt bucket) into the washer machine and set it to speed wash. I occasionally use a little bit of bleach and then soak them in prime+water afterwards (I don't think this isn't necessary if it dried out), but usually I just do the quick cycle with no bleach. I also like to fold them inside out.

I know

had use to get socks for free

now im stuck buying

Not sure a out using personal wash machine

and prefer felt-think it just is more beneficial and my personal opinion

After was in wash machine

If I use bleach, I may soak them in prime+water just to ease my anxiety, but normally I don't seem to need bleach.

So I used bleach and the washing machine and like 20 socks in a rotation. Then I realized that's insane so I purchased intank media basket and filter floss off Amazon. Now I just toss the stuff every 3 ish days and replace. I'll prob never recoup the time and money wasted on washing filter socks.

I washed socks for years and they were the worst part of tank maintenance. Especially when you reach in and find a bristle worm. That's why I created Reef Diaper disposable filter socks. They are very simple to change and you get a perfectly clean filter every time. The flange assembly is reused and only the lightweight filter element is thrown away. You can follow the link below for more info. Let me know if you have any questions.

Haha I was about to mention you all

Why not use mesh, much easier to clean.
My mesh ones from BRS seem to clog really quickly. Like within 2 days. The felt ones from them seem to last 4-5. It’s weird

Like others, I hold them in a bucket until I get 10 or so.
Wash on sanitize cycle with plain bleach, double rinse. Air dry outdoors in the sun.
Poof clean socks and no bleach smell.

Do the mesh ones catch enough stuff? I presume they would let too much material get by.

I went the floss/cups route in my reefer but just got some socks to try and I must say after a day the filter socks were full and filthy where as the floss would go 3 or so days before needing changed. The socks do work better no doubt. So I may ditch the floss and put up with the hassle of cleaning socks.
