Filter socks

Use mesh socks.....two minutes under the kitchen sink rubbing fabric to fabric and it's squeaky clean. No detergent or bleach needed.

I usually do a rinse cycle first to reduce soap residue before washing them as well.

I soak them overnight in a bucket with a vinegar/water mix. Then wash in the machine inside out with vinegar only (in the fabric softener compartment that we don't use normally). I give them an extra rinse under fresh water after to make sure there's no residual soap from previous washing.

I turn them inside out and put them in the washer with 1 top bleach and watch on bleach setting, second rinse. ONLY the socks

I changed from using felt socks and having to get the pressure washer out for an hour cleaning them every two weeks to using the mesh socks - same here, I now just run them under the laundry tap for a couple minutes. Done! Best change I've made since I bought my tank…

garden hose with pressure. No bleach no washer just in case any soap residue in machine. Affraid to take a chance.

Ouch, that would get VERY expensive since you're supposed to change them every 3 to 4 days typically. Go with the mesh ones instead as others have mentioned, so much easier to clean. If I'm not doing water changes that frequently and since I shut the pumps off when I feed, most the time I don't even run a sock anymore.

Mesh socks are the way to go. I read another great article on another forum. Amongst other good info, he explains that bleach really does nothing, except make the felt socks "look" clean; I forget what he advises to use to actually get rid of organic material. It made sense to me but now I use mesh....5 min, good as new!

I change mine weekly. I throw them in the machine on an express cycle with a small amount of detergent. After that finishes, I run another express cycle with water only. Then air dry. 2 years no issues. They turn brown over time as I have never bleached, but I replace after about 6 months or so. Mainly because they're ugly. They seem to clog up the same after 6 months as they do after the first week.

Throw them in the wash inside out. Every second use, I use a little bleach. Been doing that for 7 years without any issues (I let them sit for 36-48 hours before use to let any residual bleach dissipate).

I personally prefer felt to mesh- catches more although they're more work to clean. It's a tradeoff.

I wash them in the washer with a little bit of Mrs Meyers laundry soap...it is biodegradable. NO FABRIC SOFTENER!!! It does not rinse out. Then I use an extra rinse and drip dry. This has worked for a few years.
