Finally - Reef tank started after 6 years

Beautiful tank buddy I hope the acros you got from me make it.

Most of them are making it through . I lost the appleberry but rest looks ok. Its just the change in light and nutrients that make them look turd in the beginning.
But they are adapting well.

Abhishek

Just wanted to document the progress of the only wild frag I have . Its so amazing to see how frags that start STN bounce back with a little TLC and lots of nutrients . Nitrates today are 25 ppm and PO4 - 0.16

First when I got it :- It already started STN at the bottom

Wild frag 1.JPG

It slowly turned brown after STN stopped

Wild Frag 2.jpg

And today - Crappy cell phone pic but it simply doubled in size with yellow tips and bright blue polyps which I cannot capture. Very similar to Poletti Yellow tip or WWC Yellow tip but I love mine more . its an austera to the best of my belief in identification

Wish I had a DSLR to take a proper pic . Someday when i stop buying acros .

Abhishek

It took 8-10 months for it to rebounce and start coloring up and growing !!! Patience is what acropora teaches me :)

So here;'s a RAW unedited footage of my tank . Only lights are my halides and unlike many, i love a white tank with minimal blue tint in it.
Lights are 2x250 watts radium running on M80 ballasts.

Realised how horrible am I at taking videos but you get the picture !!!

Pardon the sand and dust floating around as it was just after dinner in my tank and my wrasses enjoy blowing sand all over which I do not complain at all :D

Abhishek

Its 1 year since I started the tank. Few things changed but overall things have been growing good. No major setbacks and thats what am thankful for.
All aiptasia gone - thanks to nudis ! Now they are starving , so Ineed to find some aiptasia for them :D

Lights changed to 2 geissemann Crystal 17.5K 250 watt halides. I am loving them wayyyy more than radiums. Th eblues and purples in acros never looked this good and I love a whiter tank than radium.

Stupid video but hope you guys like it ;Facepalm
Am ashamed to even post the video but this is the best I could do with my iPhone 5

They really are beautiful bulbs.

They really are beautiful bulbs.

They truly are ! No more blues in my tank and colors are so crisp . Of coarse it takes some getting used to a little whiter tank without any blue . Some acros do look brown but as days go by, I believe they will color up well under these bulbs. Wish I had a PAR meter available to check if they put out more PAR than radiums on M80 . But look wise, they are spectacular . And if they last as long as they claim to be, its a win in every aspect for me .

I thank you for suggesting them and providing excellant reviews for these bulbs.

Are you running the Giesemann's on the M80's as well?

Are you running the Giesemann's on the M80's as well?

Hi Karen,

So I run one geisseman on M80 and one on Luxcore electronic 250 hqi mode. The M80 runs it even whiter than the electronic on hqi mode.
But they blend pretty well. Its only when that you look at the reflector , you can tell clearly whih one is run on magnetic and which one on electronic.

WWC Somewhere over the rainbow - crazy slow and super finicky for me . Surprisingly turns yellow . May be too much light

More to come if only I can get an ok pic of the rest .

Nice work Abhishek! I love the full color that the higher nutrients bring out

Thanks guys !!!

Tim, you have to come home sometime to check them out in person. And when you come, please bring some acro frags !! Empty handed NOT ALLOWED :p

Kidding !!!

Great setup.
Did you find barebottom more easy to maintain than sandbed?

Thanks for the compliment .

Well not really . I still have 2 inches of sand at the back for my leopards, Anampses wrasses .
I have way too much flow in the tank and it got aquascape with no sand in front and all pushed to the back .
I let it run as it is . Sand keeps blowing all over because of my wrasses but I like it unlike others . Acros seem to like it and show extreme polyp extension when there are sand storms in tank .
I would always and always keep sand , high flow and wrasses with acros .

Abhishek
