FIRST AID HELP!! Cut finger BAD on bandsaw!!!!

I was making so micro cuts using the bandsaw, long story short about an hour into it I wasn't thinking straight and cut my right index finger. I would show ya the result but it was bleed excessively and i was getting light headed from watching it gush blood. Anyways, pictures below is my finger afterwards with generous amount of CoraFFix glue!

So initially, I rinsed with tapwater, then with hydrogen peroxide, then lots of RO/DI, followed by dumping glue on top!! The cut is at least 3/4 inch and very deep!!

I'm not going to the hospital, no health insurance. Working as a first responder, hospital is ideal, but its not life threatening so I'm over that.

I need advice how long i should keep the GLUE on? I'm thinking at least a WEEK.

suggestions?? any MDs or RNs out there!?

Glue? why not some gauze, apply pressure to stop the bleeding, I would go for stitches, super glue cannot be good.

when I split my thumb wide open on a clam shell I kept it clean and used crazy glue to keep it closed...worked great

That looks like my finger, just keep the glue on it that all i did for about a week. maybe a little more would help it stay on better.

actually super glue was invented during the Vietnam War to close up wounds and keep the wounded from bleeding to death out in the battlefield

I had a similar injury a few years ago. Cleaned the wound got the bleeding to stop with pressure and the applied butterfly bandages. Super glue should be safe, but my only concern would be allowing the wound to "breath" a little.

I would try to not use hydrogen peroxide. Last week I was watching a Dr. sew someone's foot up and the pt asked why he didn't use hydrogen peroxide. The dr said because he wants it to heal quickly. He said that hydrogen peroxide kills everything good and bad and will delay the healing process.

So far it seems that you have done a good job. My thoughts would be as long as you don't mind a scar there isn't a need to go to the hospital.

Keep it clean with soap and water. If it starts to get red/infected (and you still won't go to the hospital) open it up and clean it again really well with RODI water. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

most hospitals use super glue and butterflys to close up wounds know. thats what they did on my arm instead of stitchs just keep it clean with rodi water and antibacterial soap and youll be fine

actually I think your right...funny it was rejected because it stuck to everything

Well... It depends on the cut, where it is, and the doctor wether or not they use butterflies. Most of the time if they get to me (X-ray) they get stitches. I hardly ever see butterflies.

Just out of curiosity, how you planning to take off the glue?

One of my biggest concerns would be keeping the wound clean to keep from developing an infection. I have heard the same thing about hydrogen peroxide about it killing healthy and unhealthy tissue alike. If it does start to develop an infection than I would recommend going to the doctor. Otherwise I would make sure to keep the area clean and you will probably need to give it a week or two, thinking more towards two depending on how deep it is, jmo.

super glue is perfectly safe and great for sealign the wound when you need to keep stuff out of it, but like said it does need ot breath. try and keep it clean, and give it time. as long as it dont get infected you will be fine. when i was a auto mechanic we kept super glue around for that vary reason, great stuff for a quick seal up!

I'd say a little heavy on the glue, but otherwise you are in good shape. I use CA all the time for cuts, my wife thinks I am crazy, but my kids think it is the best ever!

apparently not to many people know the history of super glue........it was used in WWII i believe to actually stop bleeding of wounded soldiers...thats where it actually came from...i have used it in a pinch on several accidents.....it works very well

soooo.. the bleeding obviously stopped.. there's no pain or swelling.. i can actually use the finger and put pressure on it.. all that red stuff is just dried blood and glue... thanks everyone so far! If i end up keeping the glue on, im thinking a solid week...

Coral glue dont dry as clean as regular crazy glue... plus, there was no clean way to seal it without excessive amount of glue, it was gushing pretty bad...

After seeing the new pics I change my statement. In a few days see if you can clean the glue off and clean it with water. I would reseal it so that the flesh correctly aligns with a small bead of super glue or crazy glue. I know you did what you had to in the moment and it works, but I would reccomend redoing it.
