Yes, you can. Bonecutters are what most reefers use. You can buy them at lfs or probably amazon. The thing it's on is called a frag plug. Soft corals don't actually require calcium and if you are good at doing regular water changes you really don't need to test for anything (I don't). However if you're not good at doing regular water substantial water changes then there is a lot that you need to test for including alklinity, calcium, magenism, phosphates and nitrates.
