first fish purchase died :( WHY?

Also make sure your salt measuring device is correct. If using a refractometer have calibration fluid on hand. And if possible have some type of backup device to compare to. Ideally hydrometer

The only other holding "tank" I have is the tub I used during the 6 week cycling. Sigh... that would mean another set of powerhead, heater, and air bubbler. I can't just acclimate for days in the bag.
For 2 days, nothing wrong with using a 5 gallon bucket with a heater and airstone for 48 hour acclimation. However, as you begin to purchase more fish, I strongly recommend you follow the QT protocol we recommend for all fish. QT has two major purposes. First, it helps the new fish recover from any potential illness. Second, it prevents previously acquired fish from becoming infected by the new fish. The link in my signature outlines the process.

I'm sorry, you did everything else right...four hours is way too long. Under acclimating is better than over acclimating, and the sweet spot is 20 to 25 minutes.
