Fish Died in qt. Now what?

CB showed more symptoms before treatment than my 2 remaining fish. Do you think they're Next?

Possible, but velvet impacts angels and tangs more than many other fish, so you may be OK with the others. I think you will be fine with the survivors so long as they keep eating

But copper treatment ended over 2 weeks ago. Fish got transferred to sterile qt. No copper in this qt. No ammonia according to testing. Will get the badge anyway. I can’t take another loss and will do anything I can for my remaining 2 fish

Got it, without copper as long as the test kits aren’t “bad” should be reading fine. What about aeration? With the fish possibly suffering serious gill damage it’s a good idea to have as much oxygen exchange as possible...

Velvet is a tough one... it’s not uncommon to lose full tanks of fish, despite your best efforts catching and treating. I’ve been there, it’s hard to watch your fish die off one by one...

This is why I started to QT and proactively treat all incoming fish, can’t stand the thought of going through all of that again

I would pay a stupid amount of money for such a service. But I live in Canada

Just have them shipped to the US side and pick them up. Or take a flight to Florida and bring them home on the plane after getting some sun! Really not that hard to do and not that expensive if you plan ahead and buy tickets on sale.

Could be, heavy aeration is important afterward for bad velvet issues, as the gills are less able to move oxygen to the body of the fish. Not sure it would have made a difference, but it didn't hurt.

Did the fish have any red marks on it's side? Can you post some close up photos of both sides of the fish?

No red marks. I like to think i would have noticed but will check when I get home and post pics. Hopefully he’s still hanging in there

No red spots that I can see. Do you see anything of concern? What would red spots mean?

Could be a mouth infection. Velvet brings on many secondary bacterial infections.

I was asking about redness for uronema or possibly infections but other than the mouth I see no evidence of this. No uronema is evident.

It does look notably thin, which would make sense if it stopped eating. The gills look reddish, but fish “red wash” quickly post-mortem. Tough to know if that was ammonia burn but that’s a bit what it looks like.

Ugh. Ammonia badge is now in so that’s something. Says it takes a few days to calibrate so I did a manual test. Testing at 0.25 after a fairly large water change. Will monitor and do another water change of needed. Ugh. Poor fish

When reading it, shine a light from below for best results. Once you know what baseline yellow looks like you’ll be able to tell real from lighting (if it has ammonia after a water change that was definitely the issue). With lights off it almost always looks a bit green.

Im so lost. I don’t understand how there was ammonia to begin with. 20 g tank. 3 fish. Weekly water changes. How the hell was ammonia present today?!? I did a huge water change over the weekend, CB died today, another water change today, and I have ammonia?!? How is that even possible?!? Gosh I’d hate to think what the levels were prior to the weekend water change. Ugh

Have you been using bio spira in a HOB filter? Sorry if we covered that already.

Could be lack of biofilter or overfeeding (or both).

Truthfully my alert badge says worked well within a couple hours.

Don't be too hard on yourself, I did the same thing, thinking I would help my fish stay nice and healthy by giving them plenty of food. They stopped eating, but I was lucky enough to be dealing with extremely hardy clownfish that only had flukes. Sorry for your loss.
