Fish disappearing

That could be it, but then how come they’re dying in the first place?
Also I check on my tank about 20 times a day as where it is in my house I walk past it all of the time, wouldn’t I see it happening ?

Nassarius are a nocturnal feeder. unless you dump silverside in during the day and they rise up like their other nickname. Zombie snails

Yes, I see the power head. Do you see the film around the edges? It’s normal for a tank that doesn’t have enough surface agitation. It’s one of the reasons why we use skimmers and lots of flow. Do you need a skimmer? Not always. Is that film the reason your fish are dying? Don’t know.

I’ve had a look with the dim red light on and I can’t see anything
To be honest I’m not really sure what I’m looking for though, what should I be seeing?

Another loss today , my filefish, but this time there is a dead body there. Should I leave it as bait maybe?

he was fine yesterday and this morning
it’s like he literally died out of nowhere

It definitely some sort of disease or tank issue

See if you can get a good pic of it and post it on the disease forum, if I was you.

I haven’t noticed any bullying at all especially as there’s only my new clown and watchman goby in there
Here’s a pic but it’s in a really awkward spot, I will see if I can get a better one

I never thought about disease, simply because I never saw any signs of ich, velvet or anything like that and all of my corals are fine and my watchman goby, who has been in there the whole time is fine too

Pellets usually are better than frozen for nutrition. Are you watching the fish eat? Some fish will not eat pellets right away.

Are you able to test oxygen levels in your water? I just lost a ton of fish (while on vacation) as the water was losing oxygen saturation (+ low temps) over an extended period of time.

The only other things I can think of might be:
- Some random piece of metal is hidden and decaying, releasing toxins
- Fish were collected using cyanide
- Stray voltage

In either case, you may want to place an airstone and a bag of activated carbon in a high flow area while testing for both voltage and oxygen.

Yeah, they sort of eat some and then eat some then spit it out several times then eat it again

maybe I will start feeding live brine every so often? It might add some more nutrition for them

I’m maybe thinking a pest again though as this morning, the body of the filefish has disappeared

Think I’ve found the problem…

my auto feeder had been broken and hardly any food has been coming out of it
I mean like 1 or 2 pellets a week

I think this explains why I have still seen them eating, they look fine before they die and then the nassarius snails eat them at night?

I’m not sure but this seems like the only explanation, I feel so guilty going to add some brine shrimp tomorrow or Sunday and try to start a culture of them
