I have a 2" marine betta that will almost eat out of my hand. Some are super shy and some very outgoing. It can be hit or miss but they are in my top couple fish of all time.

As long as one isn't by itself for too long in the dt, then yes, they can be kept together. I have seen it fone a couple of times without issue.
