Fish you have/had kept but wouldnt keep again

Lot of hate for damsels here! I have a trio of azures, 2 ocellaris clowns, and a green chromis.

None of them bother anyone.

So far I can’t say I’ve had a fish that I will never have again.

I have traded or gave away fish cause the didn’t fit well, but none so bad that I would say never again.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a pair of azure damsels in with a pair of ocellaris, a six line and a royal gramma. Other than the azures biting me there's been no issues with aggression and they've been together a year.

I have one of thoseninexpensove blue damsels with the yellow bit and he's the most shy fish in the tank - have to put the music bear Bear sone gets some -got lucky I guess. Dwarf angel was being a dick to the female clown but went to net him - months ago, and he plays nice most of the time.

Love damsels but did not realize how big dominos (gold ones) can get. As big as a med / large tang . Sargent majors also very territorial.
Main fish I would not get again is a golden head sleeper goby. Had to blow off sand from all my corals daily.

Neon Dottyback, killed my cleaner shrimp by pecking at it's eyeballs, he was still tagging the shrimp while I was chasing him around the tank with the net.

Blue tang.....it’s a mean SOB! Keeps bullying anything that’s smaller and stealing food from others. Has a serious grudge against my harlequin tusk wrasse. Poor Harley

That's an easy one for me... The Frog Fish (he was yellow). He ate all my other fish that were 2-3x's his size by waving his seductive wand in front of his enormous mouth.

I’ll throw a name out no one has mentioned...Leopard wrasse! Love Bluestars, and I’ve kept several over the years, but I had one about a year ago and it would continually get sand all over my coral. Got rid of it and told myself never again (although they’re one of my favorite fish) but I gave in and bought another a couple months ago and...it covered my coral in sand too! Couldn’t believe it. Luckily I was able to get it out without tearing my tank up.

Domino damsel - unless it was in a tank with triggers, eels, etc. They are SO cool looking but just such little a$$holes. This is also true for 3 stripe, 4 stripe damsels.

I have a domino... his name is "d'bag" because it's not PC to call him "d*uche-bag" in front of my children; he bites me when he can. I used to have a 3-stripe; he was also a jackarse. He lived in exile with the teddy bear crab (who is NOT a jerk, and has actually been allowed to move into the DT); the teddy bear crab eventually got tired of the 3 stripe's attitude and caused a rock slide which killed the damsel; he then ate him.

Let's see here is my list:

Flame Angel-Aggressive Butthead and Coral Nipper
Yellow Tang-Aggressive Butthead
Snowflake Ocellaris Clownfish-Bully to smaller fish
Red Head Salon Fairy Wrasse-One of the most aggressive fish I have owned and I have seen examples of aggression from every other one I have seen at my various LFS
Firefish/Dartfish-Too timid and spend too much time hiding for my tastes. My Purple Firefish was a bully magnet (with 3 of the 4 aggressive fish picking it as their number one target)
Diamond Watchman Goby-Great Fish but I went through 2 of them in 2 tanks in an 18 month period and I don't miss the sand storm effect in my tank
Green Mandarin-Gorgeous Fish and unique but despite my best efforts and a ridiculous amount of money spent it starved to death in 3 months. If I am feeling adventurous I might try a spotted at some point in the future.

Excellent reply - not just the tank bullies but those fishes likely to be bullied are just as important to consider. Totally agree on the Firefish. They’re so beautiful as a shoal of 3 or 5, but I only ever saw mine when feeding. Also had the same experience with a mandarin sadly despite podding the tank daily. I guess I’ve been lucky with my flame angel - model citizen. I’m on the fence re Damsels. Had 5 yellow tails for 10+ years (they won’t die!) and they’re a nice flash of colour and prolific breeders so produce plenty of fresh fish larvae to feed the tank. However, they angrily defend their territories and bully anything that comes near. In a 5ft tank it wasn’t so bad but probably wouldn’t choose them again.

ROFL! Great thread but also a bit worrying. Getting back in to reefing for first time in a decade and planning everything carefully to get it right this time. So far EVERY fish I was hoping to stock is in this thread. What non-jerk are left? Anthias and Mandarines that don’t eat and eventually drop dead from starvation?

My dominos attack me too. They literally bite the hand that feeds them.

Engineer goby... when they mature they are great sand shifters. Everyday different sand topography.

Wow never seen a Leopard cause problems like that. Do you have a bunch of corals in your sandbed?

Not many corals on the sandbed. They would get sand all over coral a good 6+ inches up on the rock. They were stirring the sandbed looking for food.
