I have been working on this setup for over a year. The system I have now is hodge podged together. So I said when I do the next setup I will do things right and the way I want them. I have put a lot of thought into this build and have changed things up numerous times hence why its taking so long to do. I will include pictures as to help document the progress I make. May be slow going but in the end I hope to have a nice easy to access system with ease of maintance in the system as well.

The system is going to include a 72 bowfront for the main display tank in the living room. Then the fishroom will be in the basement. that will include a 90 gallon frag tank, 55 gallon sump, and a 50 gallon fuge!

Equipment I am going to incorporate into this setup is an OM squirt, AC II, Panworld 200ps return pump, DIY calcium reactor, Kalk Stirrer, and an Aerofoamer skimmer.

Any thoughts or ideas or criticism would be appreciated. I am sure I will be getting some flack for no powerheads but I am going to try and run this system off of one pump.

Here are some pictures of the display tank. I drilled the tank for 3 return lines and one drain line Also I will be using a calfo style overflow!

For background I used pond foam on the tank and hid all the return holes and the calfo. I think it turned out awesome. I also used silicone along with the foam to adhere rocks to the wall and the calfo!

Also if you notice in the picture the fish room will also house the sump pump pit! Hopefully I will never have to use that.

All plumbing leading up to the tank will be 1.5" Return spa flex then dropping it down to 3/4" for the OM Squirt. The drain line is going to be 1.5" and not sure if I should up size the drain line to 2" after going through the floor or not.

What do most people use to quiet they're drain line? The Hoffer, stockman, or the durso? The tank is drilled with a 1.5" bulkhead for the drain.

Looks great Eric!

You will love the basement fishroom, that's for sure. You might want to think about doing the epoxy coating on the floor as it makes spills and clean-ups easier than just the plain concrete. I wish I had done that earlier before I have stand and equipment everywhere! It will take me a total of 4 sections before I can get the entire floor done because I did it later. 3 done as of now and #4 once I pull out my other rubbermaid sump.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering if I should do something to the floor!! Thinking I should have done something before I mounted the wood to the floor. However, maybe what I will do is run a bead of silicone all along the wood that is mounted to the floor after the epoxy is applied to the floor? I was just going to do some sort of paint but the epoxy sounds like a much better idea.

The room is going to be a bit bigger than originally planned because I have a 240 wide glass cages tank sitting down there waiting to be put into the wall when I finish my basement.

Eric

eric i have great respect for you for getting that 240 down the stairs....moving that 150 from freds basement was a bear!!!

for the quieting thing...i have an external dorso and the key thing with keeping it quiet is make all the pipe that go down as straight as possible and make your turns very smooth...the flex pvc will work well...45s will help but the flex would be best

I really like the way the tank is looking what are you planning on keeping in it (corals or no corals if so what kind)

I plan on keeping mostly LPS. And I plan on trying to get zoas to grow across the calfo on the Foam and the Rock I have there. Some select SPS as well. But I am a huge lover of LPS. Not sure on fish quite yet!

Eric

you will need some high light zoas to do that and most zoas are low light...i cant keep them alive past half way up on my tank.....rip goochers :(

I haven't had any problems with light and zoas yet dave! they actually seem to do better up higher for me. I have them in both the 55 with the 175W and also in the 50 with the 400w and everything has been good! Time will tell! If it works out the way I want though how cool would that look??? All different color zoas (sorry not so much into the name of things just if I like a color I buy :D) growing across the back overflow and onto the Tonga I have on there!!!!!

Just make sure you follow up with the clear top-coat is all as the first colored one you use can flake if not protected by the clear coat.

Here is the table in which the sump resides. Along with that will be the return pump and also the skimmer and skimmer pump.
