FishFace NJ build

Well last weekend I drove 40 minutes north of me to the nearest LFS. Asked if they could get me a 90g or 120g that has the length in non-tempered glass. He said he would check with the vendors. He came back to me with the answer of no guaranty on the glass if he orders. Yesterday and today I drove to 3 Petco to check on their supply of 75g (the largest size they carry). They were all tempered glass. I was hoping to drill the tank and use my Modular Marine overflow. This would save me money. The only route now is to spend $2100+ on just the tank.

Check out Glass Cages. It's been a couple years, but I paid $745 for my five foot 90.

Base Price (60 x 18 x 21)...........$528
Low Iron Glass (front only)......$..92
Shipping....................................$125
TOTAL.......................................$745

I work in distribution, and sell aqueon and marineland tanks. Aqueon uses whatever glass is available, so some sides may be tempered, and some not, every tank might be different. Marineland USUALLY puts a sticker on the bottom that says "bottom glass tempered, do not drill" or "all sides tempered" if there is one vertical panel that is tempered.

Your best bet is to get some polarized glasses and use your phone to check to see if they are tempered while in the store.

Here's a couple vids that show how to test for tempered glass

If you need a 75, a 60 breeder would be a good option, its only a couple inches shorter than a 75, and all I have dealt with were drillable.

Seapora you can order drilled but they only have internal overflows. On the ones that aren't drilled the panels are labeled as far as tempered or non. I know a lot of stores are running sales on these right now. Good tanks and inexpensive. A step above marineland and aqueon shelf tanks.
The other option would be SCA. But those are drilled for a Synergy Shadow overflow.

Sorry I can't be more help with you specific situation. Fwiw I do like my Synergy.
@fishguy242 thank you for pointing @Stang67 this way! Much appreciated!

@Stang67 thank you for the info on Seapora and SCA. On the Synergy overflows: I heard in the past they were noisy. Is this not true? This would be a great tank since it's in stock....150g drilled for Synergy overflow 60x24 for only $1495

I guess it depends on what you feel is "noisy". I like the sound the water makes as it flows into the system I have, but I can see how that can be irritating to some. Also I have a good valve on the primary and a dc return so I could probably tune it in some but I don't. I like the sound because if it ever "sounds off" it usually means I need to do something ( clean the weirs etc).

Prices since Covid are a little higher now. Glass Cages tanks are really nice!

Base price 60x18x21....$885
low Iron front only.... $302
Shipping.....$250

If I go down the road to have Glass Cage build me a tank, I would have them do a notched exterior Bean Animal overflow.

Thanks! This is exactly what I did when I went to Petco out of desperation for a new tank.

Wow! FWIW, I wouldn't do low iron glass if I had to do it all over.

Without going back and looking, not sure if it was mentioned here, but have you checked out Hidden Reef in PA? Haven't been there in a while, but they pretty much sold tanks at cost. Might be worth the drive, especially if you also include a major salt buy.

Thanks! I'll give them a call. That is a long drive for me. I work Tues to Sunday....Monday is my only day off

@Stang67 I am pretty positive I will go with SCA. I emailed Modular Marine to see if he can make an overflow to fit the SCA instead of using the Synergy overflow. Just waiting on his reply. Thank you for pointing me in that direction.

Just ordered from NY Aquatics for the new aquarium. These will go into QT for a few weeks

NY Aquatics canceled my order that was scheduled to ship out today for tomorrow delivery. Mike said the Christmas Wrasse got an injury on its side and the Tamarin died :disappointed-face:

Sorry to hear that! They're both beautiful wrasses.

Got very close to emptying the tank so I could move it away from the wall. Two hours later I had successfully stopped the leak. I was able to get my plumbing wrench into the area to tighten the nut. Had to hold the wrench vertical to the nut. There was no way to hold the wrench horizontal. Had a keylime martini after that. lol

Wow! I can't believe that your tank build goes from august 2019 till now. Covid was unfortunately a pain for us all. Maybe one day I will submit my tank build. I guess-better late than never! Wish you good luck with all future dealings with your tank. "Key lime martini" I prefer miller lite

Monday is my one day off from work. Can wait to retire lol. Well anyway….I’m sitting at my computer and I turned around to look at my tank and I was happily surprised. I haven’t seen my Radiant Wrasse since an added him to the tank in May. Sorry about the pods on the glass. Didn’t want to clear them off and scare the wrasse into hiding
