Flame angel or coral beauty safe?

But would it bother euphyllia and zoas? That’s the only corals in the tank with soft tissue.

My coral beauty has left mine alone for almost 2 years now (barring the exploratory nip I mentioned with my wall hammer) but now it leaves that alone as well.

For your tank I would look at the Cherubfish aka pygmy angel as they tend to do better than average in reefs (still a gamble though):

Starki damsel can make a nice substitution for a dwarf angel.

Actually that is an amazing substitution. They really are brilliant fish. Right there in between the damsel and pygmy angel size wise. Grand suggestion.

Keep the suggestions coming! I like the ideas you guys are coming up with!

I have starkis as well as several dwarf angels and the starki is far better behaved with everything other than my azure damsels, which the starki hates

I’m interested in getting a flame, porters, or coral beauty for my 45 gallon reef tank but am concerned about their “nipping” at corals as I’d rather have a tank full of healthy corals then an angel. Current coral list is
Bicolor hammer
Neon frogspawn
16 different types of zoas
Acropora
Lepto
Duncan
Gsp
RBTA
Chalice
The only fish in the tank as of now are a clownfish and a diamond goby. I’m going to get a fairy or flasher wrasse eventually. Is the angel safe?

I have had a flame angel for 2 years now. Full mixed LPS tank with no problems. It is a large tank 210 gallons with lots of live rock which may make a difference. It also aggressively feeds on rods reef mix, Mysis and marine algae clipped to rock. So I think maybe the size of tank, varied diet that the flame accepts and rock really help with it working out for me.
Good luck!

I highly recommend either Flameback, Fireball or Cherub for 45 gal tank. These are the smallest of the dwarf angels.

I think a big key is how well you keep the tank fed. If they get really hungry, that's when the trouble starts.

I can keep the tank fed as much as I want. I have the apex afs. I’m only feeding once a day now but I can add quite a few more feedings.

I feed my fish whenever they look hungry, so that's about 27 times a day
