Hate to bring this up. But I purchased a flipper during their pre release and the blade rusted. A few months later they sent out replacement blades that were supposedly better and wouldn't rust. They also rusted within a few weeks so I don't leave my flipper in the water any more

It has been a few years. Have they fixed the rusting issue? If so I would probably purchase another because they are nice and slim and very powerful.

I picked up one at macna this year. I don't leave it in the water. But I don't really rinse it after use it. Hasn't rusted yet.

I have a thicker tank 150 cube 1/2" glass and a 1/2+ acrylic and the magnets are not quite enough. I use the dry side of my barracuda cleaner and
The flipper blade and it works great. In fact just used it today.
(Although such high power magnets may hurt thiner tanks. It would also be a $20 adder). So with my work around on thick tanks I would recommend it.

For stubborn agley I lift half of the dry side magnet lengthwise so as to concentrate the pressure on the side of the blade. Works!

I think they resolved the issue. Here is a picture of my flipper that has been in the tank 24x7 for at least a month.

I never really thought about the metal being in the tank, but I haven't seen any negative impact.

Bob,

The Flipper Cleaners have been upgraded with stainless steel blades a couple of months ago. I haven't had any other complaints of the blades rusting. My personal one and the ones in our offices stay in the water and haven't rusted. Maybe you received a second set of non stainless blades? Please send an email to [email protected] and I'll have a stainless blade set sent to you.

Thank you so much. Going through my old emails. I was the 14th person to recieve the flipper and was the person who originally reported the rust to Duard

I see that a few months later they upgraded the blades like you are saying and there is not a problem with rust anymore. That is great to hear because the flipper is so much better than any of the other cleaners on the market

How thick is your glass? My tank uses 1/2 inch glass and the flipper easily removes even coralline algae.

My glass is a half inch thick. The flipper is weak at best on it.

Interesting. How long ago did you buy your flipper?

Mine was purchased in the last month or so. It makes me wonder if they increased the strength of the magnet.

I got mine for Christmas last year. I bought extra blades and everything. I used it once and was pretty ****** off at it being so weak and I threw it in a drawer. There is where it remained in my hoard!

Try using the dry side of your better magnetic cleaner with the flipper wet side to take advantage if the scraper.

Got mine at macna 2013 magnets don't cut it on 1/2.

I will give that a try. It says these should be good up to half inch glass. This is a lie in my book.

I just double checked the thickness of the glass on my tank and it is 1/2 inch. The Flipper magnet works just as well if not better than my other magnetic cleaners.

I don't see a mfg date, maybe Chris can shed some light on this.

Have my for over a year and it's my go to mag cleaner! My glass is 1/2 and works fine it's not a hammer head that would cost double! Plus regular mag floats you can't switch them from scrapper to scrubber nearly as easy! I will always have one just pick up a couple blades and your set

A "lie" is a little harsh. I've used the Flipper on Elos 5/8" aquariums without any issues. Maybe purple received a dud? Not sure why it's not working for him.
