Flow in sump

You are correct. Just get a regular holesaw (dont have to be for glass.) Cut out for the holes in the tank and install could be back up and running in about an hour. One tip on drilling acrylic I have found so the bit dont bind and crack the acrylic is after you get the pilot hole done run the holesaw backwards. Take a little longer to go through it but it makes life so much easier.
Awesome. Have you had any issues doing it this way? After doing some reading, it seems I have to install a gasket between the overflow and the aquarium to prevent leaks I assume. Are these gaskets something home depot/lowes would have? Lastly, I think the DX18 is the one I would be able to use. Its 12 inches wide. Should the overflow box be has big as I can fit it, or should it be low profile?

The XD18 should be fine I would check with BRS on the gasket I honestly cant remember if I put one on mine or not. I am pretty sure I did but it might come with a gasket. It not I dont know if home depot will have them but most fish stored will have them especially since they drilled your tank I will assume they had the bulkheads. If thats the case then they will have the gaskets or pool stores will most likely have them.

Only issue you will run into from here is the low profile makes it hard to do a herbie or durso in the overflow to keep noise down. On my tank I just throttled back the return pump and instead of a 90 elbow coming out the back I have a tee set up so you still have it coming out the back of the tank and going down to the sump but then I have the other side that I put a cap and drilled a small hole like the pic below.

Just wanted to update you and say I got it working and its amazingly easy to control the flow now. It also looks better. Everything is well now. Thanks again!

I added the overflow box and it worked great. In terms of the drain, I made my version of a durso system, basically. See attached pictures. Its amazingly quiet.

Thats pretty cool I might have to steal that idea. Love it when a plan comes together. Enjoy buddy
Thanks! The bit with the tubbing sticking out of it is a T with a cap drilled to fit a 1/4 inch vinyl tubing. It makes it 100% quiet 100% of the time. My lights are now the noisiest part of my tank xD.
