Fluconazole effects on SPS (acros specifically)

I had the opposite happen for me. I did use the Reef Flux brand so it might be different than what others used.

I will also say when I used other Fluconazole I've had NO issue. The only time I had issue was after using Reef Flux HD. Unfortunate!

I have not seen any effect on my coral at all and I’m currently in day 7 of treatment. The results are amazing with the algae. Day 1 and Day 5 in picture.

I am dosing reef flux now. I am on week 3. I have lost two acros, and I have a Walt Disney that always had polyp extension that had none now. I have an alkatronic that automatically turns my calcium reactor off when alk gets high and it tests at least every four hours. I haven’t had any alk swing at all. My nutrients are a little bit higher than start, but nothing crazy. I have been dosing vibrant also, so I can’t say for sure it is the reef flux, but I think it is. I also lost my brittle star and two tuxedo urchins that I have had for over a year. Prior to dosing reef flux I had issues with tin in my water, I just found the source and last icp test was good, but it could be that my acros were still mad about that. Having said all that, most of my corals are fine and I would dose again in a heart beat to be rid of this Bryopsis!

Yes it’s been about 3 days since I stopped treatment and a few have had 0 polyp extension.

I been fighting with bryosis for 2.5 years constant manual removal.
I finally order reef flux fluconazole and give it a try.
I am so afraid of killing my high end mixed reef.

Given some of the poor reviews here I have 10 lettuce slugs coming as one last ditch effort before joining the ranks of fluconazole users. Mine isn't that bad yet so with any luck maybe they can control it.

I really think the reef flux is the same stuff, it even comes in capsules like a medication, but you can get flux rx on amazon or at marine depot. It is a little easier to use anyways. You just scoop it out, no capsules.

I have mostly LPS dominated tank, but have several SPS in there. I just ran a treatment and had no losses, but did notice my file fish got pretty weird. Didn't eat for two weeks and was acting oddly. He's since recovered and no other issues

I used this stuff, so far no issues and no loss of polyp extension.

I used the Thomas Labs brand (expensive compared to other brands). I did not lose any SPS, but had PO4 jump from 0.05 to 0.13 practically overnight as the algae died off. I recommend to manually remove as much algae as possible prior to treatment. For me it removed bryopsis, ulva, and dictyota algae very effectively.

Used reeflux here w/ no ill affects at all, even my magnifica sea anemone had no issues which I think is just as sensitive if not more.

I did make sure to pull all my macro, that can cause a nutrient spike if left in as it dies and releases.

I don't think this is really the general consensus, I've seen way too many posts stating otherwise

I've treated twice with fluconazole without any problems..I actually got an Rx for it, got the generic version at CVS (pills not capsules) and NO problems.

I did a treatment on my tank. Everything was good for about 2 weeks then I started losing my polyp extension. I also lost some of my coloration. I wanted to hold out and give the treatment a full 3-4 weeks before any water changes. I have a system of about 250 gallons so my first water change was about 80 gallons. Did another 50 gallon change without much change in my p/e. It took awhile before getting my color back and I still dont have the same p/e that I had before the treatment and it has been close to 2 months since adding it. As with everything I have added to my tank in the past with bad results I always second guess if that was it or something else causing the issues. I would think that the fluconozole would be out of the water after multiple water changes and running carbon. I am seeing better p/e but man has it been slow. On a good point the treatment was absolutely amazing at cleaning up all the algae in the tank. My frag tank was an absolute disaster and now is almost spotless.
so for anyone who has lost their p/e how long was it before it came back?

So I ended up starting a fluconazole treatment a week ago now. So far there is zero impact on any of my SPS (40+ unique types) and the bryopsis is nearly dead. Also, polyp extension remains normal.

At this point the only thing to really report of interest is that my alkalinity demands dropped significantly during treatment. I was dosing 80ml of each Triton Core 7 solution prior to treatment and am now down to 50ml per day and dropping. So, I'm a little nervous as to what that is saying for the tank's health / growth but time will tell. I'll post my results with more details at the end of treatment. But in the meantime, has anyone else seen huge drops in alk demands during treatment? Was the Bryopsis potentially using some of this alk prior to treatment?

My alk use has dropped significantly for the whole 5 to 6 weeks I have been treating. I have an alkatronic so I test a lot and the trend is very obvious. Only my Walt Disney Acro has lost pe, my other ones look mostly good, and the Walt Disney has no stn yet. I hope it will stay happy because my Bryopsis seems especially tough. It is mostly gone, but the last few spots just won’t die!
