Fluconazole effects on SPS (acros specifically)

Interesting. So sounds like you are still in treatment @Davenkim. For those of you that have seen a drop in alk demands during treatment did it rebound after the fluconazole was removed? That should answer whether it is impacting SPS growth or if the Bryopsis was using the alk.

ICP came in just after posting that with high amounts of Tin. I'm pretty sure the Tin was the problem. I added some sand using what was said to be a stainless steel funnel but considering it was only $7 I think that was the source (not actually stainless) . Things are doing fine and still no loses though.

I Use half the recommended dose works just as good, have a mixed reef with sps dominant and most of those are acros and have had no issues. This is the stuff I buy at my lfs.

Given some of the poor reviews here I have 10 lettuce slugs coming as one last ditch effort before joining the ranks of fluconazole users. Mine isn't that bad yet so with any luck maybe they can control it.

So reading further into the thread it looks like you went the fluconazole route. Does that mean the lettuce nudibranch didn’t work?

Hey just saw this and wanted to share my experiences as well. I used the blue/white capsules and it was almost like magic to me. Didn't see any issues with anything and all I used was one pill. I mixed it with water and injected it to the heavy effected areas and BOOM gone. I had a problem after getting a frag with bryopsis on it and it took over fastnow it's all gone! No more manual removing algae for me
Also I have spa corals no PE loss

Yes mine dropped significantly during treatment as well.

That is correct. They did eat it but not nearly fast enough. Even with about about 10 of them in there.

I experience a reduction in Alk... It lasted a couple of months I could not figure it out... (Alk consumption literally stopped entirely) Only thing different was the Flunco treatments . May have been the culprit...

I still have some Algae however I am reluctant to do anything now. My tank is finally back to normal. Quite odd because I did this treatment a couple of years ago prior to the upgrade in size with out issue. Ordered online from same place each time (site is somewhere on the forum)

I've done it 3 times the last 2 times at half dose and I just started the 4th treatment 5 days ago, I never noticed a change in alk consumption.

Wanted to share my experience here. 90 gallon tank, lots of acros, all are frags. Started Reef Flux HD 9 days ago. Bryopsis is about 95% gone, which is great, BUT - polyp extension has decreased on most acropora. Necrosis somewhere between the rate of STN & RTN has set in on five different frags. I am glad that the bryopsis will be gone, but man...

Has anyone seen something like this happen by chance during or after fluconazole treatment? I just finished a second round of fluconazole and notice my rainbows in spain acro seems to have had it's polyps grown over and these sort of knuckles develop. This colony used to have skinny and clean bright green branches like the one you can see towards the center. Really not sure if this is an affect of fluconazole but everything else has been spot on and no pests to my knowledge. I have some 40+ other acros in this tank that are doing well (aside from a few that lost polyp extension which I'm pretty confident is fluconazole related) so this is an isolated case.

I did not notice anything like this, but my alk usage went way down and polyp extension on my Walt Disney went away. I don’t think acros love the stuff, I think they just survive it

It depends on the algae. Mine took 10 weeks to disappear, and unfortunately it came back within another 5 weeks after treatment. I think mine is more of a turf algae though. Most bryopsis is gone in 5 weeks

I ran a course of it and suffered no SPS losses and my tank is SPS dominant
