yup.....with an angler friend as well.

I've always had a thing for gorgonians. I quickly realized how hard it is to keep both nps and sps corals in the same nano tank. so, I split them!

black sand and more rock coming soon, very frequent water changes and siphoning to compensate for now.

This is going to be a very cool tank! The black sand is going to be awesome

this tank is really coming together! added some sponges, two gorgonians, a bumblebee snail, emerald crab, a baby harlequin serpent, and I got a free basket star fish.

and the black background is on! just need the sand and maybe one or two more rocks, and one more angler.

upgrading the lights within a month to fully controllable. (the light over the tank is completely broken as of now, sorry for the dark pics)

here's the food I have for this tank on hand:

-coral frenzy
-cyclopeeze
-LRS reef frenzy
-fauna marin sea fan
-some off brand zooplankton flakes
-rods food (original)
-fuel by seachem
-mysis
-squid

should I add anything? any suggestions?

Very cool.

Tell me about your filtration.

Very cool.

Tell me about your filtration.

thanks!

HOB filter with purigen, phosgaurd, and carbon. probably going to change out the phosgaurd for phosfiltrum.

2x weekly water changes.

I'm moving in a month, and I was thinking about plumbing it into my other sump (skimmed, dosed, with a reactor) but honestly my water has been testing out decent.

thoughts?

sand is in! (excuse the hazy pictures it's still settling)

best of friends. (LOL JK I know this is a time bomb. 1 week strong so far. the blood shrimps body is as long as the angler so I wanted to see if he would even attempt to eat him. I've never seen him "fishing" for him, and they each have their own territory of the tank. everyone was scrambled while I was adding the sand today)

basket star is still alive so that's cool. I've been trying to feed the tank at least twice a day for him. he responds very well to being fed.

so, I have an issue going on. three of my sponges have greatly lost color and look very unhealthy. I have had two issues going on, one being that the stock fluval light has been burnt out for almost a month now. I didn't think anything in this tank would care about it, especially the sponges. the other issue is a couple days ago the heater went nuts. found the tank at 87. no loses, except the basket star has not fully opened since then.

I transferred the suffering sponges into my reef tank, which has a functional light and a solid temp. here, you can compare the two sponges to the obvious bright healthy red one. that one has been in my reef tank. the one directly behind it is a cutting of the same sponge, just from the NPS tank. you can compare the orange sponge to how vibrant it looks in the other pictures as well. the small red tree sponge has been "transplanted" as well.

the small yellow frilly sponges and blue sponge seem fine so I'll keep them in this tank for now.

tomorrow, I am swapping the tank. ): my boyfriend accidentally cracked the corner of this one (it still holds water thank god) but I found a used black fluval edge 6g for $20. the light works so at least now there will be something. within a month I will upgrade to the fully controllable 18W LED hood.

any thoughts on my sponges? never had a problem with them before. the orange tree sponge I've had for almost 6 months now, it was originally in my reef tank and doing great. could they be photosynthetic? or just sensitive to temperature?
