Cabinetry has commenced. I have about 70% of the face frames built and trimmed out. Finishing them is going to SUCK! I am going with a 1000 grit polish cream colored cabinet with a bronze glaze to fill in all the nooks and crannies and accent the trim work. I'm estimating the painting and sanding work to be 5-6 full 8-hour days in my garage...in 100* heat with a billion % humidity. Should be loads of fun!

Thanks! Yeah, I'm going for built in look. I got a quote for an actual carpenter to do the whole thing since I really don't have the time to devote to it...dang! Needless to say, I'm going to learn to be a carpenter by the end of this. Then I'm going to copy this cabinet look on the adjacent wall to have a built-in bar. Beer on tap while I lounge and watch fish in a box!

Impressive build. I saw one of the motorized lifts on someones build and it ran up the wall behind the tank making it all but invisible. My display is in the basement with an unfinished ceiling so I simply mounted a kayak lift above the tank. I can raise the canopy with one hand in a few seconds and it locks in place until I want to lower it. Drawback is it's not something I would want in my den but down in the basement it's not really noticeable unless you want to look at it on purpose. Looks like you have the carpentry work down well. Nice job.

Well since I have made the decision on lighting, I will not need the lift anymore. I will be fully enclosing the canopy up top and adding some 4" fans to exhaust the heat. My carpentry work looks good from afar, but far from good...ya know?!

Have you ever had one of those "square peg in the round hole" moments?
I had one of these today. I finished building the front face frame, fully trimmed it out, and wanted to dry fit it with the sides before attaching all together. I spent the better part of the day building it out today. My problem: it measures 93" wide by 92" tall. It won't seem to clear any of my exterior doors. Transporting this from the garage to any of my doors outside was no easy task, but I just kept trying. Tilt this way, flip that way, to no avail. Finally say %*$# it, and cut it in half. Like a glove after the cut! I'll post pics tomorrow once I finish it all out, covering up the cut.

Looking good, I'm in the planing and buying stage for my marineland 200g DD build. I do agree with the German product as I'll be using the Deltec SC1456 Skimmer and Deltec NFP590 nitrate filter with my build.

WOW! I love the idea of the back window, looks so clean and you positioned everything so well in the tank! And since you are learning carpentry as you go along, maybe you can come up with those submersible light reflectors as well.. Just a thought

Thanks for massaging my ego. It does look pretty darn spiffy, and I'm fine patting myself on the back for it.
The carpentry is coming along. Tools is the part I am working through. I have enough mechanic tools to start a race shop, but lacking a bit on the woodworking side. It's coming together.Pics!

The piece that wouldn't clear the door frame. Snip snip, and walked her in. This piece fits to the left of the tank, and incorporated canopy front. Rotate 90* clockwise for proper install orientation.
