FoD's Über 250DD Build Thread

Yeah. Cycle is "complete". ZeoVit 14 day cycle done. Waiting to transfer stock from the 120, but need to finish the cabinetry first, so I can hang the light rack, and finish that off. After that is done, I have to construct a small floating canopy over the frag tank, tile behind it, and hang the 8x39W ATI, so I can transfer the corals over to the frag tank. Too much to do and no time!

Thanks for massaging my ego. It does look pretty darn spiffy, and I'm fine patting myself on the back for it. The carpentry is coming along. Tools is the part I am working through. I have enough mechanic tools to start a race shop, but lacking a bit on the woodworking side. It's coming together.

Pics!

New side shot.

The piece that wouldn't clear the door frame. Snip snip, and walked her in. This piece fits to the left of the tank, and incorporated canopy front. Rotate 90* clockwise for proper install orientation.

Well if you ask my wife, my ego is fine on its own.... lol. And the pics look nice, especially how you got the rock to shine like gold :) I am fixing a 253g tank that I saved from a 5 year stay in a warehouse. Going to take a little while but I believe it will look good. It is acrylic but I am fine with that, can't turn down free lol

Just found my Rhomboid in between my screen top and overflow cover...nice T5 sear on him. He had become more and more skittish recently, and no, Hunter, I had not witnessed any aggression from my rubrisquamis. The wife will be devastated...this was her favorite. I wonder if a vendor can same-day me a Rhomboid? She'll never know! :(

Very nice, great job on the whole build. nice detail on the wood work especially the floor molding

Here is the pieces propped together and clamped in place. I'll need to do some trim work around the cut I made to make it look right.

Hmmm... I don't know, I mean its ok if you like that sort of stuff, right?

...are you kidding me that's top notch Andy, you knocked it out of the park man but, something tells me you not done yet!!!

Hardly. Wood filler and caulk are my friends! :D This will never end. Thanks for the positive comments! It will look right when I'm done...shooting for mid-2017!

Added first 3 fish today. All from the QT. All stock in the 120 are still in the 120.

In other awesome news...

My H. richmondi (Richmond Wrasse) has decided to go on a religious fast. I don't know what he is trying to accomplish, but like any other public disturbance, I banished him to the newly empty QT and made him choke on copper! Sometimes, I wonder, why can't my Chromis get sick? Why does it always have to be that one fish that I can't replace (easily)?! Oh well, onward we go.

Might want to consider some antibiotics too, just to cover the bases.

Just sprayed first 2 coats of my Marine Epoxy Primer on the cabinetry in a closed garage...I feel like I'm back in High School! I'm hungry.

Yes!!! Welcome to the paint your stand with a spray club! Can't wait to see it! Did you use aerosol cans or paint sprayer?

Sprayer. I have TONS of pneumatic tools. I bought this for a restoration I was planning a few years back, when life got in the way. Now it finally got some use! First couple of topcoats going on tomorrow. Then sand and repeat. I'm going to do 8-10 coats total, with 400-grit dry sanding between every other coat. Then a 600 and 800-grit wet sand and a 1000-grit polish. Once I am finished with that (2017!), I will apply the bronze accent color to the nooks and edging of the frames. Assuming this all comes out like I want, then I order doors, and do it all over again.

That's a thick coat of paint! You sure you are going to have nooks and edges?? haha! The wetsanding is the trick, I use 2000 grit for my final layer/polish. I find that the 1000 grit dulls it a bit more than polish. I find it easily at the local autoparts stores.

There are tons of nooks within the trim I chose! Too many now that I think about it! I am using 1000 grit to achieve a satin smooth finish. I don't want an overly glossy appearance. Are your doors in yet?!

I originally didnt want a glossy look, but I love the way it turned out. I do have access to higher grits, but I am now a fan of 2000 grit finish. Hopefully the doors arrive tomorrow! FedEx Tracking says they will. :D
