Fort Lauderdale- Miami-Florida Reef Store

Ok readers.... How about stores in Miami Beach/ Miami airport area?? Will be there for 2nd part of my vacation in two weeks.

I live in Miami Beach....no fish stores. Rent way to high I'm guessing. I personally go to many many great stores in the ft lauderdale area. Aquarium King, Exotic Aquatics, Aquarium Kingdom, Blue Seas Aquatics, Hydra Aquatics, and a bunch more I'm forgetting at the moment. They are all about 30 min drive, not too bad.

How far is Lauderdale from Miami beach?

Hello fellow reefers, I'm about to make a trip to Miami this weekend. Are there any store worth stopping by? We have a few nice one in Houston, but is there anything worth looking at at Miami? Also is it worth the extra hours to drive up to key west to see some snorkeling? Thanks!
There's a ton of stores in south FL. It kind of depends on where you're going to be. To add some of the ones already mentioned & save time (Miami traffic can be rough depending on time of day), check out bird road. There's 3 within 1.5 - 2 miles of each other - Exotic Aquariums, Ocean View, & Strictly Fish. The couple times I've been down to south FL, I make this stop. Strictly Fish has set up at Reefapalooza & has some high end stuff.

Not reef related, but there's alot of good food down there. Put Versailles on the list for sure though! The food is great, but the coffee & pastries and crazy good.

I will be in and out of Fort L, wife got some family there. We are staying in Miami so snorkeling is a must on the list. Looks like Blue seas, Blue Earth Corals is worth the checking out if its your fav. Yes, I can always google "aquarium shops". But they won't take me to the ones what the locals know, if they have good stuff and worth the stopping by. There are some fish store in Houston I would not recommend anyone to come by, unless its on the way. Thanks for the help 1 more day and counting! I'm excited , gonna get my Gopro ready for the snorkeling!
Blue seas is awesome. I picked up a few nice chalices there. It's close to a nice outlet mall in case you need to drop off a wife/gf lol. Blue Earth seems to be great too. I know there's a few more in the area that seem to have a great selection. Reefers seem to have it good down in south FL.

I don't get to the Miami area all that often, but one LFS I like is VIP Reef. I got some simply georgeous rock flower anemones from Frank (the owner) and he was great to work with.

As for snorkeling in the Keys, check out the link to a snorkeling thread here at R2R. It's new, but it's about snorkeling not scuba, and it covers beach walks and legal collecting as well.

I stopped by Aquarium Kingdom today, spoked to Fey or Phey or I totally forgotten his name sorry. He was very helpful and informative. The place was clean and had a good selection of corals and fish. Unfortunately I came for a rocordias mushrooms and he didn't have one instock. All and all it was a good experience. Thanks guys!

What city and how were prices and overall selection?

It was in fort Lauderdale, prices was average. Not too high or not too low, I think he mentioned that they buy by the bulk so that the price drops for us. Well, I'm off to do a snorkeling day Tuesday!

Looe key reef snorkel trip is a good one. Ramrod key. Mile marker 26.5. Good tiki bar there as well. [emoji106]

Blueseas in sunrise and blueearth in lake worth both have great selections.

Just got back from a snorkeling trip in the keys. The reef is not thriving as expected, there is a good amount of softies and sea fans. Looks like SPS is not thriving there like before, I seen a lot of bleach out area. I saw a few good fishes: Tangs, Wrasse, shark, not a lot that day. I tried to go John P Park, unfortunately they are book out for the day. Had to be the 4th July week so they are booked up. So we went with another snorkeling tour. The only good thing I notice is, the crew that we booked with advise us about not using the spray sunblock cause its suppose to be bad for the reef. But as I was waiting, there was a couple going to town with the spray in front of us and act like they own the place...=( rules just don't apply to some people. Anyways the water is clear and still super nice! I just made a quick video of the snorkeling today.
