Found 1 Aptasia should I expect more?

The Frag is about 3weeks old. I didn’t see the felon till just the other day when the Zoas retracted from it.
This was my first batch of corals for my new tank and the first batch into the QT. as full as that Zoa Plug was of Zoas it doesn’t surprise me a Aptasia was hidden behind it. Hence the QT.

Well you’re covered from asexual reproduction(splitting via damage etc) but sexual reproduction is crap shoot. If you have two it’s on.

I’d dump the plug, but I feel pretty strongly about the little buggers.

If you remove the plug from the water the aip’s stalk will usually bulge, this is a good time to inject into the stalk. Hope that helps a little.

Remove the frag and remove the aiptasia manually and cover the area so it has on chance of coming back. Aiptasia will effect Zoas first and I had one come in cheato and mad at myself that I did not manually remove it. If its on a flat surface and you can definately remove it with dental tools or sharp tools. Use glue to cover the area too

This is exactly what I did with a zoa frag that had one on - removed when spotted and attacked with a dental scraper while in a freshwater dip. Not seen anything since.

I’ve taken my Zoa frag that has it out 3-4 times and glued directly where that sucker has been and it must retract deep in there somewhere because it keeps coming back!

I did find a second Aiptasia. To be honest I think the second one I found was the older of the two. It was much bigger than the first one I had found. Sneaky thing had grown from the base of a dead hammer coral and was hidden in it. I thought it was hair algae originally as it was hidden among hair algae, then realized what it really was. This one was easily removed by cutting the Hammer head off that base and mount it to a different plug.

The original aiptasia I found I treated with F-Aiptasia so we shall see if it goes away permanently. I spackled the stuff on pretty thick and it’s buried pretty deep now.
