If only everyone had the same vision! Thanks for saving these fish!Call me crazy, but yesterday we bought 2 Maroon clowns and 2 Neon dottybacks at Petco. Swimming in the same system as an infected Hippo and Yellow tang. (OK, 2 dottybacks is a bit crazy all by itself, I know. But they are gorgeous and appear to be paired up already. Very cool behaviors. Even friendly with the Maroons.)
Brought them home and hand transferred to a Rally bath (my water) while I set up the QT tank. Already had water made but had to warm it up.
Once the QT was ready I hand transferred them into that.
3 x 3ml doses of Copper Power later and I'm up to 0.66ppm. Fish are eating, looking energetic, even showing all the usual lover's quarrels.
But I keep thinking about the Hippo and wanting to go rescue it. Sadly I can't keep it even if I did, but just knowing that I have the QT ready for it... argghh!
I'd love to claim noble motives but I also wanted the fish! For my soon to be set up new 25G Cube Reboot
Also helped that my wife was there and liked them too.
doesnt this also give the shop incentives and tank space to bring in more fish? and judging by the fact that they have some really sick fish, it sounds like they aren't taking very good care of them.
I feel like this should be treated like puppy mills, noble acts of 'rescuing' should be avoided for the longer term benefit of shutting down horrible operations.
I know this sounds crazy but I wonder with the new animal cruelty law if we begin to see anyone make any sort of investigation within the fish industry. HmmWinner winner

I avoid petco because it is so depressingdoesnt this also give the shop incentives and tank space to bring in more fish? and judging by the fact that they have some really sick fish, it sounds like they aren't taking very good care of them.

They should probably keep their fish and inverts on separate systems, and then they could keep the fish system on a low level of copper at all times. Of course they would need to inform customers of presence of copper in the fish water. To be clear, the fish I got didn't show any sign of crypto. Though I do think one of the Neons has it, can't be seen but he's flashing and scraping a lot.
The woman working the aquatics did seem knowledgeable but they have no facility to take care of sick fish. They just don't have the tank real estate for QT or treatment.
