Four fish from Petco's crypto infested waters...

Our petco will shut down an entire section if there are sick fish and treat them all. Not all Petco's are created equal. It does help that the manager has saltwater setups at home.

That's great to hear, but what do they treat with? Most of the managers I know tell me corpprate will only allow herbal remedies. That means they really dont treat anything. Good to hear some at least try.

I have been keeping fresh and saltwater fish for thirty years and have only used herbal medications for as long as I can remember. While results may take longer, they have worked for me. I have never quarantined my discus or African Cichlids and never had a problem. However, I quarentine all marine fish. Because I realized marine velvet killed half my fish before I realized what was happening. I have no intention of using any copper based meds if I can avoid it. So far I haven't had to.

My local Petco does offfer discounts and they also will order fish for me and keep them for about 3-4 days to make sure they eat and are free of parasites. I have had very good luck with them. They do have a limited selection, but they are lot cheaper then my LFS.

The difference is that the wholesaler for PetCo is probably the same as most your LFS, the difference is the care taken in their facilities before the purchase.

Petco policies don't allow treatment with cp or copper that's coming from the fish manager at my local Petco, he wants to but doesn't want to lose his job. He keeps the tanks a bit lower salinity to possibly help. Petco needs to man up and do the right thing, train and allow copper/CP or stop selling all animals and stick to pet goods.

That’s great.

Those chain stores are huge. Complete BS that they can’t find room. They don’t want to make the room because treating them and QT would eat into their profit margin.

They need to set up a foster fish program.

I vote they get charged under the new felony animal cruelty charges, since they 100% absolutely know what they are dealing with.
