Fox face reef safe??

What size pieces of seaweed are you feeding? I feed close to a full sheet of nori a day between my Foxface (full grown) and kole tang. I do the green in the morning and purple at night, half sheet each time and it gets destroyed in minutes. I've never had mine nip at corals but the stomach on mine usually has a nice slight bulge, he's fat. I also broadcast feed frozen twice a day in addition to the seaweed. My guess is your fish is under fed or is lacking nutrition, but it does depend on the specific fish too.
Ok
That makes sense
I wouldn't mind feeding them more. So I'll be taking your advice on that and also eatbreakfast advice too.

Ok
Cool
Thanks for the info
Gonna try it out. So I guess I should consider keeping my fox face

I used to be too quick to make big changes in my reef, later discovering if I had just tweaked or modified one small thing the issue would resolve itself. It's not always that way, but yea I would at least try to feed more and see what the fish does first.

I can't keep zoas or clove polyps with my Foxface - I've tried a few times and witnessed both my Foxface and Regal Tang picking on them nonstop. He doesn't bother my other soft corals & LPS corals. I keep him well-fed but for some reason he just loves zoas & clove polyps. Go figure!

Fox Face is safe and long as you are feeding frozen. Trigger like to grind everything including corals. Triggers are a great fish but not a reef fish.

So I would not Say All Triggers aren't reef safe. I feel none are Reef Safe but there is at least 1 they can Be Considered Reef Tolerant. A Niger Trigger.. In my case My Trigger's Name is Tyrone. Tyrone does not **** with My Coral. 55 gallon. Make no mistake about it, he is the King of the TANK and if he decided he wanted to munch on coral he would have no resistance

Tyrone is also a nice looking fish. Yes we do find the rarity every once in a while. Very nice tank!

Now if I can get my AIPTASIA under control. They are hideous. I've used a Copperband Butterfly As a 2 month rental. And my Matted Filefish Committed Fish A Side after being in the tank For a year. Plus I PURCHASED the MAJANO WAND.. Ughh

That's what I'm afraid off. He's got something for the red and orange zoas :-/

Liveaquaria.com says with caution under reef safe meaning they can eat corals or nip at them. I would say you have a better chance with them then say dwarf angels but still you can get one that will eat coral.

My file fish has become a tang, but still no aptasia after a year. The file fish tares up the nori.

I have experienced them nipping at some a leave covered Zoas. But he was just snacking on the algae. I have no problem with mine at all.

hello
Today I got rid of my blue throat trigger because it was threatening my chromis and also because I realized after months of having it that it was a female and wasn't going to get the pretty colors that the males have. The other fish I'm considering getting rid off is my fox face, I had a small frag of zoas disappear on me once and I didn't have a clue of what could've happened. The other day I purchased a frag off a local guy of bam bams and I saw my fox face nip at them right in front of me and now the whole thing is gone. So I suspect that it's the fox face. I do have other zoas but he hasn't touched them so I'm a little puzzled by it. One of My frogspawns started to lose a head and today I find pieces of the polyps on the substrate and floating In the tank. Has anyone had issues with this type of fish eating corals? My LFS that took my blue throat said they have had issues with fox face doing the same and told me that he'll take him from me for store credit. What should I do? Other tank mates are blue hippo, 2 clowns, mallenarus wrasse, 6 chromis and a kole tang. I don't think these guys are to blame though. Any advice??

I have a male blue throat trigger and a fox face and they don't touch my corals. However I had them in the tank long before I put corals in there and they are very peaceful. The triggerfish needs to grind things with it's teeth. Freeze dried krill is great mine even hand feeds. I keep them well fed and they don't bother anyone else except the triggerfish did eat some baby cardinals. I give them a sheet of nori and the whole tank works as a team to eat it as well as the krill. I don't know if it's bc they are well fed and don't show aggression during feeding. But the fix face definitely isn't eating your zoas. Try nori that will give it what it needs and see if that helps.

My Foxface hasn't bothered any of my corals. I feed him a quarter head of artisan lettuce every 2 days plus a mix of frozen foods as San Francisco Bay Saltwater Multi Pack 1 cube of each thawed in a small Tupperware container plus an additional cube of omega 3 brine shrimp and mysis shrimp as well as 1 cube of plankton. I use a small turkey baster with 2 small blast that feeds 6 fish. 8 inch Sailfin tang, 4inch Kole Tang, 6 inch Foxface, 4 inch Coral Beauty, 3 inch Long Fin Flasher Wrasse, 4 inch Hovens Melanurus Wrasse. My Snowflake Moray isn't fast enough to feed off this mix so I feed him small pieces of raw shrimp soaked in an Amino Acid Supplement. This is my 2nd Foxface under the same diet with never a tendancy to eat my soft corals. I Feed them twice a day.

I've definitely seen him nipping at them. But I'll give it a shot at more feeding. Only thing is I'm currently working on lowering my nitrates by dosing nopox and already started seeing the results
I'm down to 25
Trying to reach 5 or Lower

Another idea to try is putting some lettuce on a clip, specifically the inner clear/white leaves. I noticed my Foxface didn't tear through those pieces as fast, maybe doesn't taste as good? But I took notice to him circling the tank and slowly nibbling on the leaf throughout the day. Kind of like a Kong for a dog... Just keeps him occupied. Worth a shot.

We have a Zoa, Goni, Paly, Star Polyp, 2 Grogs, Hammer, Frogspawn, Monti, Plate, Leather, Xenias, Brain... and a few others. Our Foxface, "Vixen" has been in the tank the entire time. I regularly add fresh red gracilaria from my refugium by pushing it threw some holes in my live rock. She devours it! I have never encountered or seen any such behavior from her. I suppose it depends on the personality and how much you feed. I would guess if any "with caution" fish is hungry enough they might try a nibble... But a Foxface is listed as "reef safe"

I am 75USG (already too small). I would really try the to get your LFS to bring in the Red Gracilaria (like I had pictured above). You want it clumps, like a bush and just stick it through a hole in one of your rocks. Maybe once a month I have my LFS order and I buy a bunch for $30 and drop it in my sump inside of a little breeder box I have pictured below. The tangs and foxface loves it. Three months ago I started with Tigger Pods in the refugium and now when I bring up the macro algae I am including pods for the rest of the family, especially my dragonet, he love it! I feel like a Gracilaria salesman, but it is great. beta carotene improves immune system, helps prevent HLLE and acts as a scrubber removing nitrates and phosphates.
