Just moved my tank to a new home yesterday and I’m freaking out!

Move was stressful and I 100% underestimated the amount of work. Got everything in the tank with some new rock and new sand. I used quit a few large pieces from the original setup. Using same filter media and sponges too. Going to do big water change today and another Wednesday.

Fish seem to be doing ok this morning. Clowns looked a little weird but hoping that it’s just them adjusting to the tank who knows though.

My friend stupidly got two fish at petco and put them in my tank. I wanted to kill him. He said they looked healthy and the were eating at the store when fed. Reallllly hoping they don’t bring in unwanted pests.

Should I be stressed? What should I do? I have such bad stress over all of this!

You defiantly have allot to be stressed over. At this point there is nothing you can do except hope everything works out. Your tank will be going through some readjustment changes so expect highs and lows for a little while.

Of course you can pull all fish out QT them all and let the main tank go for 78 days with no fish. Or just cross your fingers and react if you see fish getting sick.

While your friend was trying to be nice they have no idea that this is a delicate eco system and just tossing fish in can mess things up. Sounds like something my neighbor would do. They leep without understanding how their leep will effect things.

Good luck hope it all works out. BTW, it would be nice to know what type of tank (reef or fowlr) size we are talking about.

40 breeder. Few corals, lots of nems. Cleaning out the old place this morning but I’ll take pictures when I get home and start my water change.

What other fish besides the clowns? What new fish did your friend add?

Original crew is 2 clowns, citron goby, clown goby, royal gramma.

What was added was a small orchid dottyback and bangi cardinal

Do you usually QT fish before adding? If not, then the only additional risk you are taking might be that your new fish are from Petco vs. where you usually get them. As has been covered before, not all Petco store are the same, was this a “good” one?

If you do normally QT fish, you could try moving these new fish to QT, only observe, and see what happens. You are playing a wait and see game now anyway, and if something does pop up with these fish, you may be better able to respond to it with the QT running, etc. Plus since it has been a day, if they did come in with something, depending on what it is, you may get lucky and it hasn’t had time to infect your tank.

Yeah this is all really bad timing too. I’m leaving for Germany this Wednesday. At this point I think play wait and see. And keep my fingers crossed. Pictures to come this afternoon

Typically I QT. I didn’t originally but after having ich I started too. I have never been to this petco before but my friend is pretty good with fish (surprisingly since he wanted to just add them). He had the store feed them and they ate right away. He looked st them closely to make sure they were behaving normally.

Wonder if the orchid will get along with the Gramma? My orchid turned murderous after a year's time towards my damsel even though they are usually more laid back. The Gramma has a very similar body shape.

You should be ok. The problem I'd obviously you might have a mini cycle because you disturbed all the rock and sand. I honestly wouldn't of added any sand.

Dottybacks are brats. Not a fish I would have in my tank.

IMHO, "brat" is a very nice term for them. I got one years ago because my wife just had to have it. It was fine for a few months and then just started taking out other fish. It was also a royal pia to catch. When I finally did, he was banished to my eel's tank. Hannibal was a 4' Gymnothorax Undulatus (Undulated Moray, one of the meaner ones around). The dottyback lasted about a year with him and then one day just sorta disappeared.

I guess it depends on the tank. I have a 6ft long tank with a big variety of fish, including two captive bred female orchid dottybacks. They've been in there more than a year, and they get along. I have read that the larger of the females might change to male, but that hasn't happened (yet).

Yikes, just when you want to closely keep an eye on things! Timing is everything, isn't it? Is your friend at least now going to tank sit for you?

Well as some of you have seen...my one clown didn’t make it. Think it was brook. It came on and acted fast. I tried a freshwater dip but think it was too late. Other clown seems fine. Going to watch closely. Did a 10g water change today. Going to do another 10 toMorrow.

Checked for nitrite and ammonia. Both were 0

The problem is - most people recommend doing one thing at one time. You did a couple things. Whether you have something to worry about - you will have to tell us. I would not be stressed - depending on the quality of the Petco. But keep everyone in the loop:). and good luck

This whole move has really put some strain on me and enjoying this hobby. How does everyone get through it? Just lost one of my clowns. Every other fish is still hiding. There is 0% enjoyment at this point and nothing but pure stress and anxiety.

I’m 100% paying for someone to move this next time or going to just sell off everything until I have a house

I moved my 160 from one side of my house to the other. Setup a 40 breeder to transfer everything too first. It was not a small job and took weeks to complete. Unfortunately my favorite PBT got stressed and didn't survive the move. That was almost a year ago and everything has been doing fine since but I agreee it was very stressful. I am really glad I stuck it out though and can now once again enjoy this hobby. I hope you are the same.

As far as Ich I am sure I probably have it in my tank. I have several tangs and I feed my fish a varied diet including soaking their food in selcon. I would only worry about it if you notice flukes, velvet or some other similar disease and then quarantine. Fish can live with Ich in my experience if they have a good immune system. Also I would call Petco and explain to them what happened and I'm sure they would take the fish back even if for free. It wouldn't hurt to ask anyway.
