Has anyone fed lots of freeze dried foods like krill or mysis at any point? How did your tank respond? I'm trying to low down of the pluses and negatives.

I use krill,ROE,mysis, and brine. Not sure what you mean by tank respond but my fish love the food and they’re getting fat on it. I feed about 3 times a day or 5 cubes in a 120g

Is that list of freeze dried all you feed your fish? The "tank respond" wording was just meant to include if it caused some nutrient or other issue maybe not related to fish :)

Where do you get the freeze dried cubes?

Yes they are all frozen and I ordered mine off brine shrimp direct. But my fish love the ocean nutrition brand of frozenS as well. My nutrient balance is dependent on my live bacteria so I’m okay there. I used a beneficial seedIng bacteria, during my cycle and things have been smooth ever since.

Oh I misread your response. I also feed nori sheets and I have pellets and flakes for when I want to feed a bit more then 3 times a day. Or if I’m In a hurry and unable to de thaw cubes.

The op means the freeze dried food not frozen food

Cubes? I thought freeze dried didn't come in cube form
Shoot I’m talking about cubes I’m not sure about the freezing process. Sorry OP I’m not sure about freeze dried.

I use freeze dried krill sometimes and my fish go crazy over it. I don’t really know how it impacts nutrient levels because I’ve never fed it exclusively. The only real downside I see is that it is pretty expensive.

I just like having it around mostly so I can give the fish a snack without having to run to the freezer.

I feed freeze dried krill a few times a week - some or my fish love it, some won't touch it. My 6 line wrasse that I kept in my QT attacked it with gusto. But it can bounce off my pajama cardinals face without drawing a reaction. It floats for a while - so I put it in a feeding ring. I tried one of those tubes thinking it would eventually sink and feed over time, but it seemed like some of it would stick and rot in place so I took the tube out. Looks like Avast is building a suped up version with a small circulating pump - it would be ideal for freeze dried food. No real tank issues that I've noticed.
I feed more frozen food than anything - but I also feed some pellets routinely, drop an algae wafer a couple times a week, and I've started some flake because I need a dried food my goby will take - and that is working.

I make my own food along the lines similar to the DIY food instructions that BRS made a video on a while back.

It has a lot of freeze-dried foods of various variety in it. That being said, that's not how they are fed to the tank. They are mixed with meaty seafood (tuna, clams, squid, etc), nori and an assortment of liquids including vitamin supplements and amino acids. The resulting food is rehydrated and effectively ultra fortified.

No one in my tank has ever complained. The end-product is similar to Rod's frozen foods except for a fraction of the cost. The fish don't seem to know the difference.

On the topic of coral feeding, most of the powdered reef foods (i.e. reef chili) are just a mix of freeze-dried whole or powdered rotifiers, copepods, etc.

I just ordered some freeze dried food from BRS so I'll be watching along to see if there are any gotchas! I decided to try it because it looks like it might more readily absorb any vitamins or other additives that my fish might need. Probably won't make it a main part of their diets but I have some new fish coming soon and wanted options in case they have a hard time settling in.

That's my main draw to freeze dried foods.... They absorb whatever I re-hydrate them with. Selcon? absorbed. Aminos? absorbed. Vodka? absorbed o_O;Woot
