I make my own food along the lines similar to the DIY food instructions that BRS made a video on a while back.
It has a lot of freeze-dried foods of various variety in it. That being said, that's not how they are fed to the tank. They are mixed with meaty seafood (tuna, clams, squid, etc), nori and an assortment of liquids including vitamin supplements and amino acids. The resulting food is rehydrated and effectively ultra fortified.
No one in my tank has ever complained. The end-product is similar to Rod's frozen foods except for a fraction of the cost. The fish don't seem to know the difference.
On the topic of coral feeding, most of the powdered reef foods (i.e. reef chili) are just a mix of freeze-dried whole or powdered rotifiers, copepods, etc.
