Fritz Reef Pro Salt Mixing Instructions are Stupid

And yet almost everyone’s tank target salinity is 1.026 or fowlr around 1.02 so it’s almost like they could give a salt measure per gallon of water to hit those targets. Like other salts do.

Pretty much every salt is very close to 1/2 cup per gallon. It's just the way the chemistry and sodium chloride works. You can get slightly different results (about 3%) depending on whether it's anhydrous or not, but that's about it.

Fritz has a Calculator on the website. They go by weight for the gallon of water used.

Around 1/2 cup a gallon.

I’m curious, who now has a scale to weigh their salt rather than using cups for measuring? I’ve never had to bother weighing salt. Literally all other salt companies out there use some kind of cup per gallon guide.

Could have save all those printing space and ink by just saying half a cup = 1.02x and add slowly so it will splash into your face! p/s Don't eat the salt or use it for cooking!

This is how I mix mine. I get about 185 gallons out of the 205 gallon box if I mix it to 1.025 at 1/2 cup per gallon. I spoke to one of the reps at Fragniappe in Slidell, LA this weekend about the mixing instructions not mentioning how much to use to reach a desired salinity.
He said they were going to put it on the next batch of boxes they get printed.

well fritz didnt change the directions on the box as of march 2021 the fritz box is the same instructions as the ops pic.

The 14lb bag as the 1/2c per gallon. I was at the LFS and they had the boxes I should have checked while I was there.

Other people: I use specific calculations that I've developed over decades of reefkeeping! I can tell exactly how many picogrammes of salt I need to add just by looking at the reflection of the water on the sides of my NASA-designed water station!

Me: dumps salt into water (and some on the carpet). Oversaturates. Adds more water. Remembers that refractometer hasn't been calibrated in a month. Rechecks. Remembers that the refractrometer is the beerfractometer. Rechecks. Actually manages to get some water into the tank. Fish glare back.
