Not sure what's going on or how this happened my elegance seems to be doing the same. Is there any way to fix this? I have a gyre 150 for flow and it's basically been at around 30%. All water params are normal. Noticed this after doing a 3 day blackout to get rid of dinos.

I have no idea, [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG] do you have an idea?

I'm thinking the flow is too much for it. It's bad though. Try moving both affected corals to a very low flow area of the tank for a while. See if they improve over time.

I don't think the flow is the only issue though. From the look of the skeleton the heads have been receding for a while.

Looking at it a second time, I think your right. They wouldn't be extended as much as they are either with too much flow. We'll need all the current numbers for the water parameters. If the OP has them for a week ago or even just a few days ago and today that would be helpful to see if there were any spikes that could have caused it.

I heard somewhere that high alkalinity and low mg can cause this, but I can't find a reference for this.

Its not flow - it a polyp bail - the other head is going too.

Judging from the membranes, the coral has not been healthy for a while - when you say all parameters are ok - are you testing alk/ca and mag. or just the basics.

Looks like a combination of both, flow and bail out. Can you list what your parameters are?

How long have you had them and did you add anything new to your tank?

Sg.024
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Alk 8.4
Cal 420
Mag 1420
Phos is undetectable with my test kit
Temp 80

I've had the frogspawn for a couple months and just got the elegance last month I think.
Torch and hammer I got a couple weeks ago.

Did you have any other LPS before you put those 4 new items in?

I am sorry for all the questions. Do you have a protein skimmer? When you placed them in the tank did you start at the bottom of the tank? A lot of LPS do not like real strong light.

Yeah I have a purple blasto that I've had for about 3-4 months
Yeah I have a reef octopus rated for 250 gal and all my Lps are on the sand cept for the frogspawn which is about 2" higher then the sandbed I recently quit gfo and started an algae scrubber and quit dosing vinegar over 2 weeks while the scrubber was running and did that 3 day blackout for dinos only things I've done recently the tissue loss happened a day after the 3 day blackout. everything looked perfect the day I unwrapped the tank. I had my lights set for 4 hrs.

Generally the cause is Mag being low. Once the tissue recedes a secondary infection with occur causing more damage.
An other cause of this can be basic coral nutrition and elements. I have been using Zeovit additives for years to combat this in my Reef tank.
The Korallen Zucht Nano-Power Kit Kit Includes: Coral Vitalizer, Phol's Xtra, Amino Acids LPS & Sponge Power. Are awesome in what they can do for damaged corals. I am nursing corals back to health now from someone doing the blackout thing on their tank with the Nano Power kit. Not a fan of the whole backout thing as I end up getting peoples corals in my coral hospital systems that need a lot of TLC for months after people doing this.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the blackout either stressed me out for 3 days. So with my Dino problem that's still not gone I guess I should take those corals and qt them I haven't been doing water changes because it feeds Dino from what I read I have a 10 gal qt ready to go I just need to get a better light. I was thinking about trying that Dino x stuff anyone here use it with success? Think I'll take out my inverts and put them in the qt with the corals if I trythat

Dino X is what my club member was using on his Dino journey. Man did it mess with his corals. Dino can be like a zombie issue. You can try to kill it but you never can.:)

So taking the corals out would def be a good idea before using Dino x
