From nano to 85 gallon rimless

Ordered some nudibranches to destroy some aptasia. Came in this morning when I was at work but my wife was home to sign for them.

I've slowly been acclimating them with my tank water. Fed all the tank inhabitants well and going to wait till lights off to introduce them.

Those things are amazing... they took care of all my aptasia. Bad thing is - once the aptasia are gone, they die from starvation

You have my dream tank. I have a lot of aptasia, I think when I bought my laser to take care of them I just ticked them off really and caused them to spread. Nothing like data to ruin a good hypothesis.

I was using the majano wand a while back .. i think when i zapped them aptasia, it got angry and let out more eggs or spores. Decided to take the natural route of eliminating them .

Day 1: I woke up in the morning because the baby was crying. When my wife fed the baby I walked down to check on them and I was able to spot them. This morning I was able to see them as well. It's now 7:30 and they are no where to be found. My hope is that they were smart enough to hide and I'll see them tonight.

Here is a picture of how I attempted to put them in. I ended up ditching this method about 30 minutes into t and going to a turkey Baster to pull them out.

Woke up last night and only saw one. I'm hoping it's a different one and the rest are hiding.

Only seeing at most one nudibranch at a time which just means the others are really good at hiding and haven't become food for everyone else.

Today I noticed one of my radions making a lot of noise. I decided that today I would clean them, well it wasn't soon enough. The Radion where the anemones are under decided to stop working. I took it apart blew off some dust and I think the fan is completely dead. I went onto ecotech replacement page and saw they have the xr15 fan but not the 30.

My updates are all out of order. But I ended up adding a couple pieces of Tampa bay live rock.

Also some sponges

Tonight I also bit the bullet and ordered one of these water containers. I'd like to get a float valve so I could also keep it full.

Well I started running co2 though the carx last night. Today I go to check alkalinity it was up a full dKH. I decided to increase the effluent rate to go back down and realize my bubbles were gone. Apparently I had a leak somewhere because I emptied the tank within 24 hours.

So I'm not quite sure what to do. I'll be going to get it filled again this weekend.

It's external and it's a good thing because I didn't realize how big it was. I'm hoping I contact my local acrylic guy tuan at zen reef to have him make me a chamber that will house this and have the other side house my top off water.

There is no way this is going to fit under my stand as I have the calcium reactor in there. The other option would be to ditch the carx and go to a dos but I really don't want to do that.

I think calcium reactors are the best way to go. They are finicky to fine tune, but once you do. It's a lot better in my opinion. The sump I got built, has 1/4 in. Hard tubing for a dosing system. Which I might start with, but in the long run I'll more than likely go with a calcium reactor.

I agree with you on the calcium reactor. The ease of set up with a dos is hard to beat especially when doing the balling method. The price of some supplements make it so cheap especially the brs stuff.

I've used b-ionic to adjust when setting up the calcium reactor but it's pretty expensive. Apparently you don't add to the overall salt concentration with that brand but I haven't done it long enough to truly know that.

I toyed with having a chamber made for the middle chamber of my sump for the vibe, my only concern would be that it would be a good decrease in water volume. Placing it outside seems like the best option at this point. The hard part is going to be making it look nice.

Send me a picture of your stand, maybe I can help you build a cabinet to match it. I need to practice anyways. We can go to the lumber yard on my day off. If I end up adding a cal reactor that's what I'm gonna have to do anyway.

Well I'll like to account I'm now live on ZeoVit. I ended up getting my hands on an Avast Marine Vibe.

Here is what I'm doing

0.6 liter zeovit in Avast Marine Reactor. Water flow is set to 68 US gallons per hour. The feed pump is set to run 3 hour on / 3 hour off / 3 hour on interval. Here is the apex code I'm using to run it

Fallback OFF
OSC 180:00/180:00/000:00 Then ON

I'm going to keep running this cycle until I change out the zeovit stones so about 4 weeks.

One of the inconveniences of running a zeovit system is the need to pump your reactor daily, this cleans the zeovit stones. This is where the vibe really shines. It has a motor that when on swings a counter weight underneath to vibrate the chamber and cause the film to float away. I'm currently uses the apex to run these cycles. My apex code is as follows

Fallback OFF
Set ON
If Time 18:01 to 05:59 Then OFF
If Time 06:01 to 17:59 Then OFF

I removed my GFO and Carbon reactor a while ago and last week I removed my miracle mud and fuge out completely. I'm not running 0.25 liters of korallenzucht carbon in a bag and making sure to knead it daily. I boiled rodi water and let the bag soak it in overnight before placing it into my return section of my sump.

I'm now dosing 3 drops of ZeoBack daily for the first 2 weeks, flowed by a 2 x weekly dosage of 3 drops. I'm also dosing 0.25 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily (morning & evening). All of these doses are done in the middle chamber of my sump where my feed pump is. I'm also dosing 3 drops of sponge power every other day.

I'm shooting for the following parameters.

KH 6.5 – 7.5
Ca 400 – 420 mg
Mg 1250 – 1300 mg
K+ ~ 380 mg

I have to say I really haven't ever tested for potassium, but I just picked up a test kit and will be doing this weekend. To correct for any deficits I'll be using the KZ potassium.
