gcarroll's 25g mixed reef

Dang it. I finally see an aquarium setup I really like and want to buy and the company is out of business. Well, I'll just have to live through you and your aquarium, Greg.
I can tell you why the company went out of business. There just isn’t much customer base who are willing to pay $4000 for a nano.

Here is a lil update. Tank is doing well. Went through a diatom outbreak but made it through that without much of a problem.

I have had a couple setbacks. Lost one of the anthias. Also lost a rock anemone.

Here is the nem before I killed it.

I used Tim’s ammonia. I added water, bacteria, and ammonia on day one. Checked on evening of next day and had no ammonia. And .05 nitrite. Added more ammonia. Next day same result, added more ammonia, same result. At that point I was confident that all was good. I kept going as I did not add fish til the evening of day 6. I did add a tad of vinegar to help the bacteria along during the process. Still after feeding heavily, have no ammonia nor nitrite.
I have had a few arguments as to if rapid cycling actually works. And for me it has for years. I use a little fresh gulf rock, ammonia and vodka or N0P0x. Works like a champ. Wish I had thought of raising the temp a little - good idea. BTW, if you ever decide to sell that tank let me know ;)

Cool Tank Greg!
I have followed along with you for years, love the new look with a mixed reef! I too have moved in this general direction, I love your rhodactis rock, going to be insane :)

Thanks. Where are you at?

I never thought I would get into softies but I really like it. Picked up one from Reef Raft and another from a club member this weekend to add to the collection. Here are some current shots of the shrooms

This one from Reef Raft has some bounce bubbles forming.

My favorite one came from my friend Randy!

Also I’m really digging this alveopora. It’s got green petals with light blue and pink in the centers.

Nice Greg,
Actually followed along with you on another forum, sps specifically many years ago. I live in FL, I met you at RAP in 2016. I used to help represent AF products and their distribution partner. Anyway always a long time fan :) Cheers

Well I hope to see you again in a couple weeks at RAP!

Hey you got a little Tangaroa! Love mine, for a sedentary fish he's got a lot of personality. Puffs up, opens his mouth, flares his gills -- Full threat posture when my sunburst anthias wanders near his corner. No matter how hard he tries he's just adorable when he's trying to fend off something 4x his size.

Gotta love those little gobies. They're a vacuum cleaners of the reef.
