Welcome!

Nice lights! The housing pretty much goes from edge to edge of your tank. Guessing you'll be able to grow whatever you like.

Hey William, the light is an Illumagic blaze 4ft that I cut in half :). It was a light that I bought for $50 because the LCD screen wasn't working. I'm trying control it with a reef-pi but haven't worked out the voltages I need yet. I swapped it out last night with the original because I was worried about the mushrooms at the top getting too much light while I can't reduce the intensity.

Are you allowed to collect anything from the ocean for your tank?

As long as you do it outside of the GBR Marine Park (which is huge, stretching over a thousand miles along the Queensland coast) I believe you can collect (at least I did when I was living up there). Brisbane is still about 300 miles south of where all the really good stuff starts, but there are still a few special spots nearby (especially in summer when the East Oz current brings down heaps reef species). Brissy is a nice town to, much more relaxed than the bustle of Sydney and Melbourne.

I'd like to visit Australia one day but even thinking about sitting on a plane that long makes my knees hurt...

That’s one of the good things about living on the ****-end of the planet - you are half a day in the air before you even cross the northern border. Excluding NZ (which is basically another State) the nearest major populated countries (Singapore/Indonesia) are 7+ hours away. Basically when everything is that far away you come to regard as no part of the world as remote. That’s why Aussies are still such prolific travellers to even the most obscure places on the globe - our knees and butts are already acclimatised.

Thanks @Captain Quint. I put some rock work together yesterday. Not as easy as it looks in the videos! It's a bit lopsided but I'll be putting an island on the right so that should balance it out a bit hopefully.

It looks awesome!

Some shots of the rock work in place. I'm pretty happy with it. A little worried I haven't left much room for coral growth but that will be a good problem to have!

Sorry I missed your original question about collection mate. As mentioned we can and I've been thinking about doing so but the possibility of undesired hitchhikers has turned me off.
