German 12 gal reef

well the possum wrasse died about an hour after being added, and the citroen appears to be on its way out. I think the company shipped the fish straight from their wholesaler to me. the wrasse had a small white wound on one side upon close inspection, not sure if this was cause of death or not. needless to say i will be going through a different online retailer in the future. Trying to reef on a different continent is a bit like hitting the new guy learning curve all over again!

Where in Germany? Cool looking tank, better luck with the fish though!

About an hour east of Frankfurt by train, nearest city is Meiningen. Thanks for the luck, i think ill need it.

Cool, what brought you there from CO?? Germany and CO are two of my favorite places!

I was having a rough go of finding decent work after the Army, and my wife is an anesthesiologist in Germany... pretty easy decision. I do miss Colorado a lot though, fishing here is garbage compared to back home.

So the clown jumped, leaving me with no fish. The wife suprised me with a small coral beauty to make me feel better. So far it hasnt bothered anything and will be future leverage for a larger tank as I doubt she would be happy about me finding a new home for her present to me. Here are some low def samsung galaxy pics.

You should definitely hit Frankfort and other big cities. Germany has a lot of saltwater hobbyist. Don't know if you speak the language.

I've changed a lot with this tank since i set it up. The original tank was poorly made and began to leak, so i used the 8 gallon cube tank that was the sump as a display. After a while i did a DIY LED fixture with 8 Cree 3w, 4 royal blue and 4 cool white. After things stabilized and i got my RO/DI setup i decided to add some more livestock. The tank was OK but i got bored and wanted to do something i hadnt done before, and i really missed having a skimmer, but the one i bought originally was garbage and i didn't want to go that route again. So while browsing forums and whatnot about nano skimmers i went crazy and ordered the Tunze Comline reefpack 250. The pack comes with Tunze 9004 DOC skimmer(rated to 60 gallons), and Comline 3162 filter. all for my 8 gallon cube. Overkill is better than underkill i guess

Current stocking list:
Coral:
20141016_175236.jpg

assorted zoas
blue milka stylo
pink birdsnest
green and purple rhodactus
acropora butani
acropora formosa
red and green monti
acropora aculeus
clove polyps
yellow and purple turbinara reniphormis
Hammer coral
green trachyphyllia

Inverts:
3x nerite snail
1x blue halloween hermit crab
1x skunk cleaner shrimp
1x porcelain crab

Fish:
royal gramma
geometric pygmy hawkfish

Future upgrades:
Tunze osmolator ATO (the tunze filter has a port for it, so may as well)
MP10

Ive just put the skimmer and filter in, so nothing looks its best and i'm being swamped with micro bubbles, as well as my camera not being very good. After things settle in ill get a decent camera for a better shot. Thanks for looking!

Wish I had that next to my monitor, ha! Is it hard to find reef stuff in Germany? More expensive than the states?

so you are alive, looks sweet

Its hard to find when you dont speak German, but now that i have a decent handle on the language and what things are called its not too bad. Prices are about the same, as far as i have seen. There is a serious lack of super cool zoas here though :(

cpt, yes, im still kicking.

Yeah I always wondered about stuff outside the US, cause it seems like it's soo easy to buy equipment and the variety we have at our finger tips is pretty vast. Suprised about the prices, thought it would more expensive, that's good though! Bummer on the zoas man.

The variety on equipment is good, alot of really good manufacturers are german, aqua medic, eheim, tunze, royal exclusiv etc. The hard part is learning what things are acutally called. an overflow, for example, is called an "uberlaufer" which literally means over walker. little things like that made it a bit tough.

Haha, that's funny, you'll get so used to it over there if you ever come back you'll be like, "what's an overflow"! True, didn't think about the german brand, they do make som high quality stuff.

Changes! I added more leds to my heat sink, so now it has 8 royal blue, 6 cool white, one red and one green, all Cree. Tunze osmolator nano is in and waiting to be installed in the DIY stand im in the process of butchering (i think i passed highschool shop class with my winning personality rather than being able to make things out of wood). The stand came out of MP10 budget so i went with tunze turbelle 6020 instead. This little pump beats the pants off the koralia nano i was using, pretty pleased with it so far. Once the stand is up tomorrow and i figure out how to mount the light ill post pictures. Ive bought some tropic marin product to make kalkwasser in the ATO reservoir. Ive never used this meathod before so im hoping i dont do something dumb and crash my tank. Im going to start using Nyos coral necter as well, but its dosing is 1 drop per 100 liters, so ive got to make 1/3 drop somehow :)
