Getting sick and tired

I read that thread and that why I know it's bacterial. The algae is here also, but my nutrients are so low because I think my nutrient export is very agressive so it's a pretty weak invasion compared to some folks tanks I've seen. The hair algae is pale and the snails are making pretty quick work of it so far.

I just did a 3 day lights out and my nitrates went from 0.20 to 0.85. That was with very little cyano and little stringy diatoms on sand bed. Depending on amount of algae you may have a lot more nutrients locked up in that algae.

The highest NO3 reading I've seen on this tank since I started taking measurements in May is .5ppm. That was last week. Last night it was < .25ppm and really barely detectable using the Salifert kit. All other tests have shown no detectable nitrates in this tank. I believe my cheato in the refuge has sucked them all up. As of about a week now (When I started the cheato ball in May it blew up in growth and size), the cheato ball has been getting brittle and has shown little to no growth even under 10 hours a night under the Kessle grow lamp. My guess is there just isn't enough nutrients in the water column to support continued growth. I started feeding the fish and corals heavier. The fish and corals like it but so far NO3 and PO4 levels remain very low. What feeds these bacterial blooms? Same nutrients as algae? If so, I would imagine this population currently in the water column is going to crash any minute now. I hope so. I hate this cloudy water.

If it's a bacterial bloom add a airstone.

If your tank is cycling it is normal. Mine has been cycling 2 weeks exactly and from the long side looking thru it's still got a bit of haze. I running carbon but it just takes time. Probably another 2 weeks.

I'm about 3 months in.

I can't say for sure that the airstone in the sump worked or that it was just coincidence, but here's a couple of shots of a clear water tank. Hoping it stays this way for good now.

RSCP. But starting tomorrow I'm doing a WC with Fritz RPM.
I accidentally overdosed Fritz 460, or whatever it's called. It's bacteria for sludge.

I had a bacterial bloom like crazy. After contacting Fritz about what to do, they said to run you skimmer into a 5 gallon bucket because the skimmer would overflow. I did that and it cleared the tank and the skimmer was back to normal on a few hours.

I had the same issue two years ago. Adding an air stone for a few days will help. You should start to see an improvement within 24-36 hours. The bacteria are stripping the water of oxygen, so adding more can't be a bad thing. Ya, you'll get some micro bubbles, but once the bloom subsides it'll be fine. Do a hefty water change as it starts to clear too.

Could be that something died in there, kicking off the bloom, but it looks like you have it under control now. Thumbs up, Navy.
