So I'm getting my 350g tank delivered soon and I dont have a bunch of big guys to get it in place. I plan on using a duct jack to get it up on the stand which shouldn't be a big deal.

Now to the question....the tank is 96x36x24 tall. My doorway isnt big enough to get it through unless I put it on its side for the 24". Will this hurt the seams or aquarium in general to lay it on its side?

Thanks!!

I would get it through the doorways before unpacking the thing in that case... It should be pretty well braced when shipped.

Good point. Hopefully the crate isnt too thick. I've got those pre-tank jitters.

Plus I'm using the lift to get the tank on the porch then slide it into the house on some plywood. Not sure that the lift can pick it up with the crate as well

I would get a bunch of guys for once you get it inside.

I had a hard enough time convincing a couple guys to help me pick up a 250 five miles away this coming weekend...... a 350 is gonna be a job and a half

How are you going to get it through the door? Probably 500lbs or so right? Maybe 600 or more with crate

I am fairly certain the weight of the water pushing out when full is far far greater than the weight of the glass pushing in when laid on its side. You should be fine. Go slow.

Hope you have a straight shot in to the stand. At that length it is the turns that get you.

I was thinking the same with the water weight but wanted a little confirmation

The doorway leads to my living room which is wide open

I used A bunch of 4” pvc to serve as rollers. You might have to build a stand if you have steps. I also put plywood on the rollers and then just put the tank on the plywood. You will have to move each roller as you move the tank through the doorway. This way if you place the tank on its side there will be even pressure. You could even place some foam insulation boards on top of the plywood in case there’s unevenness. Good luck.
We moved a 180G down some stairs and used a plywood sled. That wasn’t fun!

Put it on a dolly on a piece of 3/4" plywood.
Piece of cake.

This is an excellent suggestion!

That's how I've moved way too many tanks over the years.

That's how I moved my gun safe into the house and that thing was about 800 lbs and huge. It worked for the Egyptians. Good luck

Love those tank dimensions!! I had the exact same question as you (about laying it on it’s side) for when (one day— lol) I get a tank of that size. Have you asked the manufacturer for an opinion about whether the side can hold the weight while on a dolly or roller boards? And do you have a photo of the lift you will be using?

I used 2 of these. $11 at harbor freight. Rated for 1000 pounds

Crated the 240 was 700 pounds and much larger in each dimension. I rented a lift kit and 7 people lifted it on the stand. I did get the stand into place by myself.

I just brought a 180 inside and needed to put it up on the side as well, used a dolly and 3/4” plywood cut to size and rolled it into doorway, worked well.

I've seen a friend use this method and it works well
