GHL KHD and SA Pump setting IP address for WiFi

I have been trying for days to get my GHL KHD & SA Pump up and running. It has certainly been an uphill battle. At this point I have gotten the drivers loaded (finally), gotten the doser to connect to my computer, gotten the KHD set as the slave unit. At this point according to the GHL 3 part video series it is time to start cutting tubes and setting reagent up, etc., however, because this will be a PITA running the pump back and forth from my computer to the tank in order to get settings saved after calibration, etc.....I "assume" if I have the doser set up on my wifi in theory I should be able to set everything/calibration (etc) by my tank using the app on my phone....so that I don't have to unhook the doser and run it back to my desktop and reconnect to save changes via the USB port, etc. Now my latest challenge is this PITA setup GHL requires to set the pump on a static IP address, which is BS IMHO but it is what it is. I finally found the video on how to get the doser to connect to my wifi....still not sure why GHL doesn't make that part of the setup series because again, you need to have it on wifi otherwise you are jogging back and forth between the tank and a desktop computer setting everything up so one would think it would make sense to make that video about setting up the wifi part of the "setting up" series....but....I digress. I have followed the steps and my doser shows all the right number configurations according to the GHL video short of one caveat....on the IP address only the last number can be set/changed. My default gateway matches from my wifi to the doser, check, my subnet mask matches from my wifi to the doser, check. I'm a little unclear as to the last three digits on the IP address. According to the GHL video that one does not have to match what I'm seeing in my "command prompt" screen as long as the subnet mask and default gateway match I'm good to go. When I go to save the GHL logo on the doser is supposed to blink white, then to blue....however, mine never does....just pulses blue continually. I have changed the last three numbers on the IP address several times to open slots I know we have on our router but that has not helped the situation. I have emailed and called Vinny for help with no results other than a link to the 3 video set up series....which still does nothing to help me get this thing hooked up to wifi. I spoke to BRS today, which is where I purchased it and they are not sure how to help either....stating one of their employees ran the system briefly then removed it from the tank....hmmmm.....makes me think maybe I should not move forward either at this point.....but I trudge on regardless with determination. Their suggestion is to either call Vinny, which I have done with no success or send this back to them for a refund and buy the Neptune Trident setup.....apparently unlike GHL if there is an issue they can sign into ones computer and get it resolved and not leave the end user hanging, as I have been experiencing for days.
Again, I digress.....in a nutshell if anyone knows how I can get this IP address ridiculous situation resolved I would be grateful for the advice. Apparently I can choose any number from 1 to 253 (254 is reserved for something in the unit I gather) as long as it's not tied to any of our other computers in our office. I did start earlier changing that number starting in the beginning of the number sequence trying to see if one worked. I stopped at 122 because I had wasted a ridiculous amount of time and wasn't getting anywhere fast.

I am in the same boat my friend. I am actually pretty good when it comes to tech but this one has me puzzled. I have given up and am just using the built in WiFi hotspot to make it work with the app. I cannot setup a static IP because my internet provider doesn’t allow it unless I upgrade my account to a business account, which costs more and that is just a whole ‘nother story and completely ridiculous. I wish it was simple to setup the WiFi. I emailed GHL also a few times and was told that I need to get the IP address off my network page and input that since I can’t get a static IP. But I can’t do that because it doesn’t display the IP’s when I login to my home networks page. They did say they could try to login remotely and help me setup it up so they are able to do that, maybe ask them if they can do that to help you. I just haven’t had the chance to do so myself.

I have set up a ticket with them.....last Saturday.....but have yet to hear anything back at this point. VERY frustrating. Sadly I have already paid in full for the upcoming ION Director as well....ugh. Thankfully I have paperwork (I get everything in writing) that states if I change my mind by the time that blasted thing FINALLY comes out (was supposed to be out no later than this month now it's March 31st.....who knows what it will be on March 31st....probably July 4th....LOL) I can get my full amount refunded. My fear is as hard as it has been to communicate with GHL or Vinny that I will be jumping through even more hoops trying to get my refund. I got to see their display and setup with the ION D at the ReefAPalooza in Chicago a couple of months back and felt it was a good option for me......but at this point I'm sadly rethinking it all together....way too much of a hassle. No company in the year 2019, nearly 2020 at this point, should be asking an end user to be going into their computer command center or setting up IP addresses and such.....a total crock IMHO. Had I known all of this I would have never ordered it to begin with. Extremely disappointed in the setting up process and the lack of support at this point. Thanks Gareth. I appreciate any help I can get. I see you tagged Vinny.....all that will do is result in him saying it's not the GHL product it's your computer that's the issue and a link to the 3 video series set up that totally leaves out how to get it setup on the wifi. I think they purposefully leave that out because they know you'll go crazy and be committed to the nut house after dealing with the obstacles! LOL

Samina....you say you have given up and am just using the built in WiFi hotspot to make it work with the app. Can you elaborate on how to get that to happen? I have searched the GHL video series and all I find is the video on setting up the static IP address to use it over WiFi. If you followed one of their videos on YouTube to set up the hotspot option I would be forever grateful if you could link me to that video.

Hey Samina,

I just found a video in the GHL series talking about the hotspot and using it directly from ones smart phone. However, sadly, when I pull up my WiFi connections on my phone I do not see the GHL Doser as a choice, as the video states I should see. After the past 4 days of nightmares trying to get this thing up my gut tells me they are leaving out a step prior to this that would somehow trigger the doser to be seen in the screen they say I should so easily be seeing it now. Ugh. This thing has become the bain of my existence.

The wifi over phone app should be able to connect like so.

I tried going that route but it does not show up on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) as an option under wifi. Is there some setting in the GHL doser that I need to check off/activate in order to make it show up as a hotspot on my phone?

My profilux wasn’t broadcasting at first. I unplugged and waited a few before plugging back in. I then kept searching for the hot spot for a few minutes. This might have been my phone as, it was in need of replacement at the time.

So so the initial connect to the hotspot this video explains it quite well.


Now if you can not install a static IP and you need to determine the IP address or the unit download FING - network scanner it will scan the IP address that are on your wireless network and you will see the doser. If you need me to do a video let me know, done this a few times for some friends.

The hotspot should come up when the unit first powers up. About 15-20 seconds after you turn it on.

Since you have already went to setup the WiFi network, the built in hotspot will be deactivated. If you want to use the built in hotspot, you can turn it back on. I know it’s a pain, but if you connect the unit back to your computer, open up GCC, and then connect to the unit. Once connected, navigate to setting and in the WiFi section, you’ll see a selection for “Access Point”, select that, it’ll grey out your WiFi network settings. Save your selections and then disconnect from GCC. The unit will reboot (may take a few mins) and then once LED is blue, you can search for the hotspot via your phone and such.

Just an FYI, the “static WIfi” is created on your wifi router. No need to involve the cable company or have a business account. You log on to your Router and set up a local IP address for the profilux.

To be honest, reading the posts here it all sounds like people misunderstanding terms and terminology.

These three videos, are made for the Profilux but I am guessing they are similar for the SA doser.

Yesterday, I helped a friend set up his GHL. When we were done he still had trouble and it ended up being the wifi channels on the GHL and his home router where broadcasting on the same channel.

Another key thing I see is the OP said he set up the KHD as a slave... um.. that isn’t possible. The Doser can be set up as a slave and if it is a slave all the WIFI stuff in it turns off. You only set it to slave IF it’s connected to a Profilux. My guess is it’s not connected to a profilux.

So OP if you set something to slave undo that. Your doser isn’t a slave from what I can figure out.

Thank you for the video, however, no matter what I do I do not see the GHL in my wifi options. I only see my personal wifi. I understand what I should be seeing, as I have AI lights and that's how it worked, just like you posted about the GHL. I received a message via GHL from Vinny asking for screen shots of everything so I may do that today.....not sure. After tossing and turning all night over this mess I've gotten myself into I'm thinking it best to give up now and cut my losses before I can't return it back to BRS. Extremely frustrating and should not be this way IMHO. Thanks again for your input.
