Gilroy 425g Build Thread (All Apex, all the time)

I would need too many to prevent shadowing long term - probably 8-12 of them IMO.

I like the edge to edge coverage but the disco twinkling with the amount of surface agitation I have is the deal killer for me.

You hit one of the two LED I liked! The Philips light shows some amazing potential if you want great light and dont care about crazy bells and whistles.
Bells and whistles is why I just sold my radions. I thought I loved bells and whistles, until months past and corals weren't growing. I want a company to engineer a light that I can adjust intensity, and set it and forget it. (T5). Too many adjustments on the radions. Who knows if the color you choose is what your corals need. I like that the engineers at Phillips took the guess work out if it. I think the engineer said there are only 2 channels to control. I like that. Takes user error out of the picture, Unlike radions.

Also passive cooling!? Liked that feature. More efficient, and no fans to go out after a couple years.

I have come around on this as well and feel the exact same way.

Yeah, me too. I sold mine also, I've been noticing there are so many "used" led's on the for sale forum.. Went back to t5's and my corals are now growing..

Schintzelreef the radion xr-3 pro cover 30" by 30" so he would need 8 radions not 12. Do your research before talking about things that you don't know...

Take a deep breath here. Schnitzelreef has been running them for a while on his system and has a lot of experience with them.

Btw sorry to hear about your BML lights. That was a great company to choose reef lighting. Other than killer new lighting they also made some awesome looking and customizable refurbished LEDs and hybrids

Whats your impression after seeing the LaniLED (the One)? Talk about bells and whistles
Ding Ding Ding. This was my #2. I think this light was amazing. I feel that the uber-controllability is over the top. However, the edge-to edge look was nothing short of amazing. If I could put two of these over my tank, and so long as the PAR/PUR was adequate, I would go for it. However, because of all of that amazing controllability, they are a bit too pricey.

So there you have it - you guys guessed my choices from InterZoo for large format LED fixtures - The Philips and the Lupy!

Any thoughts on the kessil lights? I have been loving the a360we over my reef tank. I am (was?) a huge fan of BML, I've got lights above both of my planted tanks, they have been running wonderfully for years with excellent plant growth.

I'm interested to try the new AP700 from Keesil.

Ok cool.

So what do I win? [emoji6]

Is your goal to use one of those 2 lights? Or are you still on the hunt? Why not throw some t5s up there and call it a day? :)

I love the look of T5. I hate the electricity cost, bulb replacement cost, and lack of controllability. I will look at both of those seriously. My third option is what BRS did. A AP700/T5 hybrid.

Are you going to start with the AP700/T5 combo until the Phillips becomes available in the US or are you going to import some Euro spec units now? If you do import the Phillips, please share your source. I'd love to try one out on my frag tank.

What about building your own retro t5 rack? I believe LET is now making dimmable kits.

I would likely mount up two AP700 and two T5 (one front, one back) per side. Another option might be three staggered 360s and four T5 per side.

Lots of options. I will take about two weeks probably to decide on a direction.

Whatever you decide on, I'm sure it will be killer. But you need to hurry so you can trim back a few of my corals. They have reached the water surface and have no place to go, but your tank. LOL
