Giving up

Looks like this might be a good time to get back to basics and reboot. You might have some losses, but you'll have a lot more survivors than you imagine. Give it 6 weeks and tell me I'm wrong!

Did your magnesium ever drop during the " concrete" event?
No, actually I have always run a little high, from 1440 to 1500. Unless my Red Sea test kit is wrong.

I think my biggest problem is I try and help out as many people as I can with what little knowledge I have, and yet I can't keep my own tank from crashing.
Look at the Masters' tanks. That is how they became as good as they are too!

I know how it feels at times. Im still battling diatoms off and on with my system. I've changed my RO/DI filters and resin just a couple weeks ago hoping it will help. Thinking of pulling my sand bed and replacing it soon. It was "Marco" sand and I think it's my problem.

They have their issues as we do, but on a smaller scale due to how long they have had their tanks. No one is exempt.

Yeah, in the first year you will still be in the clusterfxt stage, basically going from one disaster to the next. :) It's part of the deal, unless maybe if you start will 100% real live rock, which few people do.

Anyway, what you could do is remove the corals, back off on the lighting and enjoy a fowlr for a year. Then fire it back up and things should be easier.

Reef tanks will find a way to make of fool of just about anyone- hang in there; its worth it.

I think that may be my next step is to pull out all the sand I can get out without removing the rock and the put in new sand, if I do it I will need to do it sooner than later as my fish in QT are still 5 weeks out. Would only have to remove 6 fish for a day or so from the DT.

I would reading the dino thread. From your initial post, it sounds like you helped out your dinos, not reverse. Water changes feed them and help them grow (iron + other macros that are not yet fully identified), parameters are still pretty low I'd say. Did you ever ID your dinos? Do you have a UV?

I knocked mine out phyto, uv, and over feeding

I stopped with the water changes 2 weeks ago, no UV, looked into figuring how to pipe one in, not easy.

I think my Dinos are either under control or being defeated as I no longer have any, or many bubbles anymore, but I do still have a lot of red hair type algae or cyano.

I would remove small sections at a time and replace. Gives the new sand time to establish it's bacterial colonies.
