The chip occurred 4 months after I had the tank. I set it up after two months of having it and then the chip formed two months after that. Can you do a charge back that far out? It was after their 90 day warranty so they were reluctant to listen to anything I had to say.
"Chipping and breakage are not caused by manufactured defects and therefore are not warranted and no free replacement is available. Breakage that occurs after the aquarium is accepted is caused by improper set up or accident."
It says this on their warranty section. I assume they had some calls about chips. If I run across that thread I saw about tanks with random chips showing up I will post it here. I just took apart an old aquarium to re-purpose the glass for a sump on a build I am doing and I was happy to see it had spacers for the silicone. They were these little clear circles about 1/16" thick. Maybe even thinner. It was a 72 bowfront with the megaflow overflow. I don't know the manufacturer.
I hear GC uses Spacers now so I assume they are familiar with the problem. My tank is older and definitely didn't have them, hence the tank failure.
