Glass Cages Tank Seam Failure.

I don't understand what you are saying. A broken seam on a tank after 6 years is acceptable? I am not interested in them warrantying it.

Read post #53.

I would have filed a chargeback right there. I don’t really have a tolerate for an issue off the bat. It lasted 6 years after that which is way out of most manufacturers warranty’s so ‍♂️

The chip occurred 4 months after I had the tank. I set it up after two months of having it and then the chip formed two months after that. Can you do a charge back that far out? It was after their 90 day warranty so they were reluctant to listen to anything I had to say.

"Chipping and breakage are not caused by manufactured defects and therefore are not warranted and no free replacement is available. Breakage that occurs after the aquarium is accepted is caused by improper set up or accident."

It says this on their warranty section. I assume they had some calls about chips. If I run across that thread I saw about tanks with random chips showing up I will post it here. I just took apart an old aquarium to re-purpose the glass for a sump on a build I am doing and I was happy to see it had spacers for the silicone. They were these little clear circles about 1/16" thick. Maybe even thinner. It was a 72 bowfront with the megaflow overflow. I don't know the manufacturer.

I hear GC uses Spacers now so I assume they are familiar with the problem. My tank is older and definitely didn't have them, hence the tank failure.

Aquariums should last 20 years plus. My brother in laws 55 is 23 and my bosses is 19. Most of us would go broke if we had to replace our tanks every five years

I agree. I have had tanks for 20 years. I have even used pre-owned tanks without much worry but this one had me worried from the beginning. I am glad it failed with my native tank and not a reef tank as I have no backup plan.

Yes - you can. Chargeback rules are very consumer friendly --- especially for a defective item that you have documentation to go off of.

You are right. Defective items have 120 days for a charge back. I never knew that. Thanks for the insight.

Their warranty is only 90 days anyway.
That might tell you something.

I've seen more than a few Glass Cages tanks fail after the 5-6 year mark.
Mine failed at just about 8 years.
The bottom seam sprung a leak.

Another glass cages nightmare. These are pretty common here on R2R. As are the people defending them to no end. I don't get it. They are terrible in build quality (sometimes you'll get lucky) and even worse in customer service.

This is crazy. They are one of the noted: Industry best and I hope we as consumers are not just venting but also making them aware as it is a serious Quality Issue

These kinds of threads have the benefit of being data free. Absent data, anybody is free to offer any kind of opinion - even if they have no direct experience with the actual tanks and are just parroting what they've read online. I had a world-class 180 (same builder) last me 20 years; and as far as I know the tank is still running. GC tanks are even better built now (eurobracing along the bottom seams). Warranty IS kind of lame at 90 days, but as long as a tank is properly installed, that should be enough to get past any inherent manufacturing defects. No tank manufacturer is going to warranty against physical glass damage; you have to claim it when the tank is initially delivered otherwise it's on you. My preference is now for acrylic on huge tanks, but were I in the market for glass, I'd not hesitate to buy a glass cages tank.

Those of you defending them - go ahead, buy a tank from them - no one is stopping you

All I said was that MY "ultimate life long dream tank" that I bought from them failed at about 6 years and I will never buy from them again nor recommend them to anyone. And when I spoke to them about it they were rude to me and actually hung up on me.

I would just hate to see someone come home or wake up to an empty tank and a lifetime collection of corals lost because I didn't share my experience about their products and customer service

Glass breaks, humans make errors, people damage things.

To bad every company is the same

That stinks. If I had had that experience, I would neither use nor recommend their tanks either. My experience was good. My issue is with the chorus of parrots that flock to these kinds of threads who have never actually owned a GC tank.

I have never seen the phase " Industry best" in a sentence that refers to Glass Cages.
They are known for very sloppy silicone work, delivered dirty tanks, rough glass cutting, uneven seams, and one of the shortest warranties.
Their customer service sucks.
My information is coming from personal experience.

IMO, they only thing good about them is the price.
But as everyone says, you get what you pay for.

well i'm going to say this even with the mixed reviews. This was enough to change my mind and go with SC aquariums instead of Glass Cages. Thanks for taking the time to put your experience out here for us.

Yeah there customer service as always been bad. Lady answering phones can be very rude at times
We give them business, then the business owner gives soneone a job, and that someone gives us bad attitude...sigh...I dont get it.

I know I’ve posted before, but I purchased one of their tanks almost 11-12yrs ago. It had all the bottom and top eurobracing. For only being a 90gal it was over built for sure all out of 1/2”. I sold that tank about 1yr ago and it is now up and running for someone else.

Am I defending, no, but I am letting people know there are tanks out there that have lasted and continue to last.

I hope it all works out for the OP.

My 360 was a glass cages. Very solid tank. I did spring a small leak in 2017 but it was easy to reseal.
