Glass cages

I've had several Glass Cages tanks. I still have one now, though it is empty (spare frag tank - 48x24x12). I've never had an issue of any kind with any of them. The one I still have is 10+ years old and rock solid. I've heard of a couple leaking but both were very long tanks and I would put that more on the stand being perfectly flat and level. Regardless of some negative press my experience using several of their tanks has been nothing but positive.

I was thinking about drilling myself, but was wondering if they drilled their glass before they put it together
They can drill it for you but im not sure if it’s before or after. I would assume before. I’m real picky about where I want things so I opted to give it a go.

Ya I have a specific overflow that I'm getting and it comes with a template. I'm also trying to make this perfect

I literally sent them a diagram of how I wanted it drilled, dimensions and all. They called to discuss the plans and confirm, then did it perfectly, exactly as diagrammed. :)

Do you still have the diagram you sent them? In curious to see how you did it. What overflow did you go with?

I just used their overflow, but I wanted it drilled for a Bean Animal, and I wanted two return lines drilled on either side of the overflow at 3” deep... so I used my computer to plot out the design and put measurements on it. We talked on the phone to verify all of my dimensions, as well as verify hole sizes (the sizes are different depending on if you use PVC or ABS bulkheads), etc.

I don’t still have that file, however, it’s very easy to make up again.

If you were using something like a Ghost Overflow, they have drilling guides that you could send Glass Cages, and they would drill it where you want. :)

I spent extra for all of the extra holes (I believe it just comes drilled for a Duriso Standpipe with the return line drilled into the bottom in the overflow box), but it wasn’t a lot more by any means. :)

Yea I think I'm going to go with the modular marine which comes with template. I will probably just send that in prior to making my order and discuss location. Then just do two 3/4" holes on the outer sides for my return :)

Hmmm, I live like 30 minutes away from them, but had kind of discounted them based on the bad reviews, but it's all too true that people are much quicker to complain than share successes. Following along.

Overall I am very happy with my 72” by 30” by 25” tall. I added the Shadow overflow and the waterline is too low due to the acrylic edge on the top back inside glass. I will have to modify the overflow weir to make it higher.

Other than that, if you are adding a canopy I say these tanks are more than worth the money. If I was going rimless and this size I would go with another tank that was cleaner looking on top.

Did you end up drilling yourself?

My 72"x18"x24" was made by them. It's Euro braced and has a dividing wall as the overflow. I drilled 3 drain holes myself and built the in wall stand. The silicone on the tank isn't the prettiest but it definitely does the job and I don't have any complaints.

I have a 150 tall (48 x 24 x 31) that I had built by them in 2009. Other than some excessive use of silicone on the euro bracing I can't complain about the tank at all.

Their “factory” is something to see as it sits on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Super nice people and are eager to give you a grand tour. They are also fish dealers and have literally thousands of tanks with mostly cichlids. When I was there they had probably 7-8 tanks over 500 gallons waiting to be shipped to customers and probably another 20 or so smaller. He said they ship out over 100 tanks a week all over the world and was definitely an amazing place....

Don't waist your time or money with Glass Cages, for a little bit more you can get Planet Aquariums to build you a tank that comes with a pvc bottom and silicon that's perfect. I bought a glass cages 180 and immediately sold it. Worst silicon job I had ever seen.

I have a 250g (96x24x25) from glasscages with 3 side low iron and I love it, with the stand they built. Started the tank in May.

When I first got it in my house.

What it looks like now.

Looks like even with living ~30 minutes from them (I grocery shop in Dickson), SCA would still be cheaper for me for a 150g tank.... and that's comparing rimmed/pick-up from Glass Cages and rimless/shipped from SCA.
