I'm pretty new to the hobby. My aquarium is about 6 months established now and I just got an anemone a week ago. So far he has been doing great. When I bought him from one of the LFS, it was glued to a frag plug. I did find this strange since anemones are known to move around. Well, I went ahead an place the plug in the sand and let it stay there to see how the anemone does. Went to look at him earlier and it looks like my nassarius snail must have knocked the anemone on it's side. I grabbed the plug to reposition it and the anemone broke off the plug. Problem I have now is, I can see that there is some glue attached to the bottom of the anemone's foot. I want to get the glue off so the anemone can use it's foot. Not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tried re-glueing it but that didn't work. It just got super slimy and won't glue back on. I don't really want to glue it back on though b/c I'd rather it be able to walk around.

I would just leave it. It can expand its foot around it to still be able to move I would think. Im my old tank once had some wierd black worm eat a hole straight through an anemone (hence I did not take the liverock to my new system!) and it split and one side recovered. When the other side died I found a massive pink shell inside the tissue o_O so they can be pretty creative!

IF the anemone is holding onto the glue it won't let go unless it wants to, which will happen without intervention. Trying to get it to stay where you want will be the true task. Good luck.

Oh, and welcome to Reef2Reef!

Agree leave it! He'll do his thing and foot where he should.

I think the nem will be fine with the glue stuck to its foot. Just let it be. I doubt that I am alone in saying that if your LFS glued an anemone to a rock, I would find a new LFS!!!!!

I can't even imagine a LFS with any real knowledge gluing an anemone. This is just absurd to me.

You can't glue a nem down without their cooperation. If they don't want to stay put, they won't no matter what you do.

Are positive it's a nem and not a coral? Can you post a pic?

I bribe my anemones with money, prayer, food, sexy shrimp, and clowns trying to get them in a place I would prefer.

All jokes aside, they can NOT be bought...they'll find their way into wherever they want. Ideally we try to create the perfect flow and light balance as well as good protective foothold, but they will go where they like. I even adjusted the rock work just because my largest nem chose the backside of it not allowing me to see it from the display.

Any pics of this so called glued down anemone?

That foot has cells and membranes and are used to allow it movement. I believe the nem will slowly expel it from its' foot.

I highly doubt it’s a nem. Would take a special kind of dumbness to glue a nem to a frag plug.
Which leads to another issue. Who glues a nem, mushroom or leather to a plug ?

I'm guessing you have a ric not an actual anemone. But please take a pic, safe to say we are all pretty curious at this point.

You make a very valid point. I'm in Denver so there are many LFS. I won't be going to that one anymore. I'm still a newb and this is my first anemone but I should have been skeptical the moment I saw it on a plug. It's a smaller one and it had a much bigger and more expensive one next to it that looked the same. So I'm guessing they recently fragged it off of the big one.

This is it before it fell off the plug it was glued to.

I think it's a nem. Here it is before it fell off the plug. 20200424_115234.jpg
