Go big or go home (MaxSpect Gyre)

Am thinking about upgrading power heads as I am currently running a maxi-jet and a grech dual. I've been thinking about upgrading to a MaxSpect Gyre and was looking for some thoughts / opinions. I've always battled Nitrates and Phosphates, and I'm hoping by upgrading to better quality equipment, I'll be able to in turn have better quality water. Also, just happier corals and fish over all.
I have a 90gallon tank w 40 gallon sump. Which will be a better choice if I go the MaxSpect route, 130 or 150? Are there any other options out there? I do not run any type of controller system, so the pumps would not be hooked up to anything like that.

VorTechs! Hands down the best. Plenty of used ones available.
After running the Gyre XF-130 for a year, I was totally disgusted. Only bandwagon I ever jumped on regrettably.
I traded it for 2x Jebao rw4's and couldn't be happier.

How is the quality of Jebaos? I have the knock off Chinese LED boxes which I love and are amazing, but always a little hesitant on knock off products.

I have the 2nd generation XF-150 on my 180 and it as fantastic. Well constructed, moves a ton of water, and silent. I have used Vortechs, I was not thrilled with them.

I have a WP-20 and an RW-4 and I am very happy with them. The WP-20 has been running for a year now with no problems...

I'm about to order a Jebao RW-4 for my 20g long so I'm interested in people opinions on the as well.

The Gyre is great.....needs cleaning once in a while......vortechs are nice as far as controllability but the flow is more cone shaped and who wants that big thing sticking outside the glass.....I like Ecotech and I hope they come up with something better.

I have 2 rw4 on my 36g and I can only run them at 20%. They are very powerful and the master slave mode is nice when you have 2 powerheads. The price is also nice. They have a small presence in the tank as well. Been running them in the tank for about 2 months now. Very happy with them.

Awesome! I was already pretty much sold on an rw4 but it's nice to hear other people like them.

That's for all he info! I'll have to do some reading when I get home. Would two of the rw4 be sufficient for a 90, or would I need to look at a larger model?

Maybe go with the rw-8 model to be safe.

I have a gyre 130 and a 150 in my tank and couldn't be happier. I originally had 2 rw-8's and was amazed how much more water the gyres moved when I swapped out the rw's. The problem with the gyres is it only pushes water one way, the reverse mode is pointless.

I have a Gyre 150 on my 60 gal and it is overkill but awesome. I have it programmed in pulse mode and it literally creates a wave on the top of my tank. The water level moves about an inch up and down on either side. I will take a video this weekend if I get a couple mins this weekend.

Okay so next question. With the positive reviews of the jebao rw's, anyone have any thoughts/experience with their gyre knock off?

My experience with Jebao is an RW-4, a WP-20, a DC-6000 and a DP-4. All instruments are still working and in perfect condition approaching the year mark. The DC-6000 was never cleaned yet btw. No experience with their CP-40 but if I was to go that way I would definitely trust them.

I'm glad to hear all of that. Usually all I hear about them is how they "steal" everyone's products and sell em cheaper. That sounds to me like someone is jealous they overpaid [emoji23]

Another happy RW/PP owner. I love that they upgraded their magnets. The RW4 will hold on 3/4" glass. I had to buy a $80 gyre upgrade mag to work on the 3/4"...

EDIT the mag upgrade is $60 now, but I think I paid 80. It still wasn't amazing strong on 3/4" glass, I don't see how it could work with 1" and up.
