I ordered a yellow clown goby but I got a white/pale goby from @LiveAquaria

It looks more like a Pygmy croucher to me. Anyone know for sure?

Need a pic under white lights. A Pygmy Coral Croucher is typically brown (like the colour of a penny... They're also known as a Penny Coral Croucher). The body is also more round (like a coin) when you look at it from the side. This looks more like a clown goby to me. They come in a lot of colours. I saw one that was such a pale yellow it was almost white.

This might also be a different goby type which is why a white light pic is needed to see the colour and body shape.

Body shape is wrong for a croucher (which isnt a goby. Its actually a type of scorpionfish. This is def a goby). They really are as dorsally rounded as they look in pics.

Could possibly be something from the Priolepis genus or a closely related one.

That is white light there’s no blue on.
Oh. The pic looks so blue/dark. :-) Well as I said (and was also mentioned by @Labridaedicted) the body is wrong for a croucher as is the color based on what you said. The croucher is also not a goby as was mentioned despite the name but I have seen them lumped in with the gobies (incorrectly) on some websites. A croucher is not normally mixed up with a clown goby at the lfs because they are harder to come by so are usually more expensive.

If you just got yours then it could be shipping stress that has caused the pale color. Some fish will also go pale at night. I would give it a couple days to settle in and see if the color changes. I still think it is is a clown goby but you can check out Priolepis type that was mentioned to see of it matches.

Looks to me like a Gobiodon acicularis but hard to tell exactly without a side photo.
A nighttime shot will help aswell
Actually, I’ve found the drastic colour change when Gobiodon are asleep is the best way to see what species they are.
Here’s my acicularis at night

And here he is earlier, totally different!

Infact, it was the nighttime colour formation that helped me to realise I have a Gobiodon acicularis.

I would definitely say a Gobiodon species, a ocular is is commonly seen over here however I cannot see the front dorsal fin properly.

I’ve had yellow clown gobies and croucher’s as well. This doesn’t look like either, but a little of both.

Definitely not a yellow - Okinawae is only bright yellow in colouration. I only own 4 gobies however have watched and researched my fair share of them for elongated periods of time.
The size of it can also help to identify the species aswell as a nighttime photo.

The more I look at the fins it is a clown goby - it might be a black clown goby - is your camera stripping any color or is it off-white like that irl?
Black clown gobies can be MANY different species. Just a few that can go under “Black Clown Goby” include;
Gobiodon acicularis
Gobiodon astrangulatus
Gobiodon citrinis (Yellow specimens are much more common though)
Gobiodon brochus
Gobiodon unicolor
That’s just a short list, there are MANY more that go under the same common name of “Black” Clown Goby.

My money’s on this - these are cool as hell I didn’t know they went from light to dark like that - are they as finicky as the citron with eating?

Actually no! They’re just as easy as okinawae is to keep. I have a lot of dark hiding places until I can get coral growing just to help him feel more secure. But strangely enough he hides on the glass and in plain sight more often than on the rocks. He loves to perch on the dead SPS frag (Dang Blenny… I just have to wait 2-3 years before I get SPS).

Almost certainly a Gobiodon now that we've gotten some more profile type shots. Most likely G. quinquestrigatus or acicularis.

Def not a Goby- croucher hybrid. Crouchers being wasp-fish are far to distantly related to hybridize.
