I’d say it’s quinquestrigatus as my acicularis doesn’t display burrowing behaviours. Have you got any photos of the face clearly?

Here's what I can say so far, he's still the same color. Very white/pale. Very much likes to sit on top of the snail in the tank. If he's scared he burrows into the sand. He's the only fish in the 2g pico I have and that's the plan just curious if we can id it.

if you only recently got him then he may still be readjusting to a new environment making it harder to ID him.

Actually, I’ve found the drastic colour change when Gobiodon are asleep is the best way to see what species they are.
Here’s my acicularis at night

And here he is earlier, totally different!

Infact, it was the nighttime colour formation that helped me to realise I have a Gobiodon acicularis.

I think this might be it, I’ve seen him change from very pale to almost black.

Sounds like an acicularis. Some will also have a flatter front dorsal fin. Similar to the one below.

Another sign to show a possible acicularis is by the eye colour. Unicolor will have a Brown ring round their eye whereas acicularis have a silver ring.
